We walked towards the lunch room. I didn't order lunch, I didn't feel up to it. I sat down next to Zachary. He looked at me confused.
"Are you alright? You look sick."
"Yeah. I'm fine."
"Hmm..okay. No lunch?"
"Nah." I crossed my arms and laid on the table. I felt sick to my stomach. Why did I do that?? Why did I kiss her back?? Why didn't I pull away?? I don't even know if I have feelings for her. I don't even know her! Well, I know her a bit better now. I could practically still feel her lips on mine. I squeezed my eyes shut.
When I opened my eyes again, I saw Blossom staring at me.
"Hey there! Sooo... what happened in second period?? I heard something happened, aaand I wanted to know!"
I sighed, "Please Blossom, I'm not in the mood.."
"Well I was just askin!" She sat down in front of me, "Sorry if I upset ya.."
"Hey Gloria..I wanted to ask you something.."
I looked up at Zachary. He seemed awkward to ask whatever it was.
"Do you wanna meet me after school? I know a cool creek we can go explore and-"
"Oooh! That sounds like a daaaate!" Blossom interrupted.
"It's not a date idiot! I was just asking! Like, as friends!!" Zachary stuck his tongue out at her. She did the same back.
He turned back towards me, "So, do you?"
"Yeah sure, I'd love too." I smiled wearily at him.
"Okay, I'll tell my mom and you can come over to my house on the bus."
"Alright. I'll ask my dad."
Suddenly, the bell rang, and everyone burst out the door. I don't know why I ran, it probably would make my head hurt worse. But I did.
I sat on the ground under a tree. I picked up my bag and looked inside.
"Hey, I thought I gave this to you Zach?" I held up the book toward him.
"You did, but I thought I'd give it back. I just laid it in your bag at lunch." He pushes it back gently.
"No, you can have it. I mean, and if you're done by the time I come over I can take it back."
"Really? Thanks."
"You wanna know a secret about the book?"
"Sure?"I leaned in close to whisper into their ear. He leaned over to me too.
"The main character is touch starved, and the other main character constantly touches them and gives them affection. It's one of my favorite ship types."
I leaned back and he sat upright. He looked at me and smiled.
"That's cool. I haven't read many books like that."
"Yeah I know right, it's the forgotten archetype. Just give it to me when I get there and we can talk about it, okay?"
"Ok."
As he opened the book, I listened to the crunch of the fresh pages being opened. That book was fairly new, and had that new-book smell. The kind that you could curl up in while drinking hot-cocoa, and watch the autumn leaves fall.
Blossom came up to us and sat down. She took her hair out of her ponytail and let it cascade down her back. That made me realize something.
"Hey Blossom, why aren't you in trouble for having your hair different."
"Because I'm the principal's kid and head of the student council!" She flipped her hair, "AND I'm amazing when I'm different!"
Zachary sighed and laughed to himself. I don't know if it was at Blossom or at the book. Probably Blossom, seeing as though those two don't get along.
My thinking was interrupted by the teachers calling us back inside. My thinking always seemed to be getting interrupted.
