The morning was pretty regular, except I woke up late. I had to grab my toast and eat it on the way.
"Do you have everything?" Marcella asked me as I ran out the door.
"Yeah, I'm good! Bye!" I ran out the door and up onto the bus.
"So," Zachary said when I sat down beside him, "Who do you think the owner of the diary is?"
"I don't know. I'm more interested in who they like." I slipped on my favorite frog ring.
"Yeah me too. Although I'm not really one for drama." He looked into his bag, "Oh shoot."
"What?"
"I forgot something."
"What did you forget?"
"The book I was going to read in first period. Great." He crossed his arms."I'm sure it's fine. Hey, I have an extra book. You can read that." I handed him the book, and he put it away.
"Thanks Gloria."
"You're welcome."He wasn't playing any games, which was weird. He wouldn't look in my direction. I looked at his face. He had a bruise under his eye. His eyes already had dark circles, but not like this.
"Hey, what happened?"
"My brother hit me. It's not a big deal."
"What do you mean he hit you?"
"I said it's not a big deal. Please let it go."
"But..I was just asking if you're ok."
"If you really want me to be ok, you would stop asking."I looked down at his hand gripping the bus seat. I grabbed it. He turned towards me in surprise.
"I'm sorry. I just wanted to know if you were ok. I won't ask again." I smiled at him.
He smiled back, "It's fine."
I held his hand all the way to school. Sometimes, he would squeeze my hand. But I didn't mind. When we got there, I waved bye to him and headed to my first class. But then, I remembered the diary. I took it out of my backpack and looked at the cover one last time.
I walked quickly through the halls. I stopped when I came to a girl, sitting alone in a room. She had long blue hair that flowed down her shoulders and back. She seemed really upset. I walked up to her.
"Hey, are you ok?"
She gasped when she saw me holding the diary, "Oh no oh no oh no!"
"What? What's the matter?"
"This was not how today was supposed to go!"
"What do you mean?"
"Well...I was going to tell my crush I liked her today.."
"And...?"She stared at me for a second.
"But I guess she already knows."
I stepped back.
"Wait, you like...me?"
"Yeah." She tucked a strand of blue hair behind her ear, "And I was gonna tell you. But then everything went wrong!" She wiped her eyes.
"Hey, it's ok." I grabbed her hands and patted them. She looked up at me.
"So...do you like me back?"
I stopped and looked at her.
"I-I'm sorry...but no, not really. I mean, I don't even know you an-"
"It's fine," she interrupted, "I get it. I'm sorry this happened."
"Don't be. You should never deny your feelings."
She rubbed her arm, "Please don't tell anyone."
"I won't, I promise." I held up my pinkie for a pinkie promise. She grabbed it with her pinkie.
"We better go, we might be late for class." I looked at the clock hanging on the wall.
"Yeah, you're right. Bye Gloria." She ran out of the room.
"By-" I started to say, but I stopped.
I never told her my name. She must've just known it. I ran back to class and began the rest of this eventful day.
