A loud crack of lightning and a boom of thunder woke me up. I looked at the time. It was a bit before school began, so I laid there for a while before getting up.

I brushed my teeth and walked down the stairs. My sister was just starting breakfast.

"Hey Bean, you're up early."

I wiped my eyes and sat down.

"You haven't called me Bean in forever."

"I guess." She smiled and got out some pancake mix. She mixed it up after turning on the stove. She had such pretty hair. It was long and deep brown, like dad's.

"Did it storm last night?" I asked.

"Oh yeah. Might wanna wear your rain boots today."

My rain boots. I got up from the table and ran up to my room. I searched through my closet, moving old sports equipment that I never got into, and dumb paintings I did when I was younger. I suddenly found them.

They were yellow rain boots, that I remember made a squeaking sound when I walked in them. I used to annoy the heck out of my parents with these. Then I said I got too old for them and refused to wear them. I tried them on. They were a little tight, but I could manage.

I put on the rest of my clothes and finished getting ready. I looked around my room for my front ring. Then I remembered.

"Oh right. I gave it to Zachary."

I went downstairs and ate breakfast. Everything was pretty regular.

After breakfast, I grabbed my backpack and ran outside. It was raining pretty hard, good thing I wore my rain boots. I stepped on the bus and shook myself off. I scanned the seats.

Zachary wasn't on the bus.

His mom might've dropped him off. I sat down in our usual spot and sat my bag beside me. He usually had the window seat, but this time I got it. I stared at the raindrops and watched them flow down. I made bets on which one would win. Mine didn't, but that was ok. I was proud of him.

After more staring and thinking and racing, the bus pulled to a stop. I walked off the bus and headed inside.

"Hey Gloria!"

Blossom said as I put my wet backpack into my locker. I stood up and let her get to hers.

"I need a favor..."

"I'm listening."

"The student council is like, supposed to make these bracelet thingys for a fundraiser. But like, no one is gonna help me make them. So..."

"You want my help?"

"Omg would you?! You're the best! My mom is ordering us food to eat in her office, so don't worry about buying lunch."

"Uh, okay."

"Thanks again! See you at lunch!"

"See you at lunch, Blossom."

I walked to first period and took a seat. I glanced over at Blossom. She was writing notes, I guess. She looked up at me and waved. I waved back.

Man, she is just full of energy. But she really is sweet. And I'm glad she's my friend. Besides, she does a lot of the talking, which lets me do a lot of the thinking.
