I spent my last few hours with Cassie practically attached to her hip. I knew I would miss her as soon as I couldn't smell her scent anymore. Angie had told Alaska nearly everything that she had taught me and that she expected him to continue teaching me after we had left. She did not let him go to sleep until he promised that he would. Now that the clock was ticking down to our last hours I wanted desperately to have Cassie come with me, I had never been without her longer than a few weeks, but I knew I had to stay strong, she needed to stay safe.

"I love you, Cassie." I kissed her hard wrapping my arms around her waist. "I love you more than you know."

"I love you too." Tears were streaming down her face, but she was smiling nonetheless. "Go save the world and come back to me!"

"I will, I promise." I kissed her again.

"Very touching, come on boy or we will have to stay another night." Alaska huffed from the front door.

"Right, right." I sighed. "I promise ill come back to you." I let go, and it was the hardest thing that I felt like id ever done.

I grabbed my bag and headed out the door behind Alaska. We climbed into his brown ford and headed for the gates.

"Alaska, Lupin." Jaxon waved us through the gate.

The gate thudded behind us, I felt like this was a new chapter in my life.

"You alright kid?" Alaska asked without looking at me.

"Yeah." I looked out the window watching as the trees slowly turned into the buildings of a city.

"The first place we are going to go is to my home. I got to grab some stuff, Lady will have a good meal and will be excited to meet you lupin."

"Alaska.." I finally looked at him, taking in all his scarred features. "Echo told me that you knew my parents and you could give me the best and most accurate account of what happened the night my parents were murdered."

"You jump straight to the point don't you." He huffed.

"Look, I just want to know."

"I get it, kid." He laughed. "You sound like you're old man alright, always wanting to know all the details."

"Will you please tell me then?"

"Yes, all right." He scratched at his scruffy beard. "We grew up together, your father was my cousin."

"What?!?"

He laughed at my shock. "I figured you wouldn't know. Anyways your father became the alpha after an accident. It wasn't easy for him, he was always stressed, the black wolves, Akanthas parents were always on the move prepared to strike, but then one day my traitorous brother burned down my house and it distracted your father, he was busy trying to find a way to punish Akantha, he couldn't prove it was her even though he knew so he was trying to help me when that bitch killed her parents. Well, it was two with one stone, but then it showed us what was next. Before your father was able to do anything I made the mistake of thinking my brother had changed, instead he told her how to get in, how to attack your folks, and keep them from escaping. It was all my fault." He didn't cry when he said it, but I could see the remorse in his eye. "My brother told me no one got out, he would have seen them, so like the rest of the world, I assumed you had died with them. My brother was supposed to bring anyone who survived to me, but the stupid idiot didn't."

"It's not your fault." I don't know why I said it, I wanted to yell at him and rage that he was the one to betray my parents but I couldn't.

"It happened a long time ago, don't flatter me." I could swear though that out of the corner of my eye I saw the flicker of a smile flash across his face.
