(Hello from the author, I just wanted to place another warning this chapter gets gruesome.)
The next morning I woke up with hope and a bit of fear. Depending on how many people showed up and if Akantha or any of her cronies were there would change things drastically.
"Here goes nothing," I whispered to Cassie.
"you scared?" She asked, a look of concern on her face.
"A bit." I shook my head. "Alaska will be there, everything is fine."
"It's okay to be scared. It's how you know you're alive."
I smiled and kissed Cassie's head, "I'll see you in a bit."
I headed down to meet Echo and Alaska, Jaxon was also in the living room with them. Echo looked pale, but all of them had stern looks on their faces.
"Ready."
"Yup." I nodded.
We all headed out to the gate, we would be holding the meeting outside of the fence. As we got closer to the fence I could see a good-sized gathering of people, all different smells, but the familiarness of the wolf's scent too.
Axl waved from the other side of the fence. Jaxon nodded to Elija (he was newly promoted to gate watching) and he opened the gate just enough to let us out. The crowd of fifty or so men, women, and children's attention turned to us. I recognized many of the men's faces I could see. People who Alaska and I had met on our travels.
"Hello everyone," Echo yelled. "I'm the alpha of this territory, and well you all know why you're here." He nodded. "Why don't you all go sit in the grass over there and in a few moments well get started."
A young man made his way toward us. "Sorry, but some of us have been here all night."
"Glad you decided to show," Alaska said glaring at the boy.
"I... I wanted to apologize." He looked at me. "I'm sorry for trying to get your mate's number, I thought you were just some myth..." he bit his tongue.
"Andy." Alaska glared more.
"No, let him talk." I held my hand up to Alaska. "you took a bribe to do what exactly."
"To talk to her... long enough for..." He looked down, hanging his head shamefully. "That Angie woman knows how to turn someone away quickly. I owe you my life."
"You won't take bribes ever again? You'll be loyal to the alpha of this pack?" I asked.
"Lupin, what are you doing?" Echo asked noticing the young man talking to me.
"This is Andy," I stated. "Thank you for coming to apologize, but I'm not the one you need to impress, think about what I said."
Andy nodded then walked over to the grass and sat alone.
"What did he apologize for?" Echo asked.
"Nothing that matters now," Alaska said. "He meant what he said, he's a good kid, just a bit lost."
"Okay." Echo shook his head. "Anyone sees anyone over there that shouldn't be?"
"No, those are all civilians," Alaska said. "Families and young wolves looking for refuge, some probably sent by their families to see if it's true, I've seen most of these people."
Echo nodded again.
"Right." He walked towards the crowd of people. "First and foremost, upon entering this territory all of you will submit to me being your alpha, so long as you are inside of that fence you will obey and help. We will need hunters and more guards, anyone who wants to join will meet Jaxon who is in charge of appointing jobs for you. Let me make it clear if you do not want me to be your alpha you can leave at any time, any rule breaking or trying to harm anyone will result in you being removed from our territory."
