A/N: Sorry you guys for the super late update. But it took me forever to get through my writers block :/ And even then I don't think this chapter was that great. It's more of a filler for what's next. Sorry it's so short too. Anyways, I have a better idea of what's coming up in the next chapter so I won't take forever to update :) So please don't leave me :'( Pwease!

Chapter 10

Morning light streamed through the closed curtains illuminating the dark living room. Sitting up I could feel my back aching and protesting at my decision to sleep on the couch. Remembering back to last night, Ian and I had stayed hugging until I had somehow fallen asleep in his arms. I guess he left after laying me down on the couch.

Ian. I didn’t bother asking him if he was okay after being attacked by that wolf. He said the blood wasn’t his but there was no way he could have beaten the wolf and actually hurt it. Could he?

Shaking the thought away I decided I needed a shower before thinking of anything else.

After a long hot shower I glanced at the clock and saw it read eight forty-two. I guess I would have to wait to call Ian. After that attack last night I’m sure Ian would want to rest up.

Heading to the kitchen I decided to make myself some breakfast. My taste buds were screaming at me for something sweet, so I settled with making some French toast. As I took my first bite, my mouth watered with delight.

By the time I finished eating it was almost eleven. Should I let him sleep in some more? Or maybe he’s already awake.

My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of my phone ringing. Looking at my screen I saw an unknown number and hesitantly answered. “Hello?”

“Sam?” A familiar male voice answered. “It’s me, Ian.”

“Wait, how’d you get my number?” My thoughts ran back to each of our encounters trying to remember if I had ever given him my cell number.

“It doesn’t matter. Look, I called because I needed to know if you were okay after…well yesterday.” His voice was laced with anguish; as if he were scared I would reject ever wanting to be near him again.

“To be honest, I’m scared.” There was silence on the other end so I continued, “I’m not scared for myself, though, but I’m scared because of you. Last night I was terrified that something might have happened to you and I couldn’t do anything about it. I wanted to run back out there but I knew I’d only get in the way so I just sat here and cried.” Tears slowly began cascading down my cheeks and I had to stifle a sob before it made its way out. “Do you realize how pathetic I felt last night? How useless?”

“You’re not useless--”

Before Ian could continue I cut him off. “I am useless! I sat here and did nothing while God knows what was happening out there.” I knew if I continued on like this Ian would only feel even more horrible so taking a deep breath I continued. “But then you showed up and all you cared about was how I was doing. You didn’t care that there was blood on your shirt or that you had just fought with a wolf. You only cared about me and it made me realize that if you hadn’t shown up on my doorstep last night. I would have gone out there and killed the damn wolf myself, even if it meant killing myself in the process.”

“Sam.” Ian’s voice caressed my ear as he spoke my name. There was nothing but tenderness in the way he spoke to me. “I would never leave you, even if it meant fighting off a hundred wolves.”
