Days slowly passed. School stopped feeling like a chore and became slightly enjoyable. Edward and I hadn't had a serious talk since the day I broke down. We have barely talked, actually. We would interact or have small conversations, but it felt weird. I would get in his car on the way to school and we would just sit there in silence. Sometimes he made comments about random things–like the weather, or what the time was. They never lasted long.

Eventually, I couldn't take it anymore. So one day I asked Alice if I could ride with her, and she was pretty excited. In her exact words, she said "Oh-em-gee!! Now we can be best friends forever!" I didn't know what she meant since I only asked to ride in her car, but good for her. If I can't date her, then we can be best friends. I hate you, Jasper.

Anyways, it felt like we both had distanced ourselves. I didn't know if Edward was trying to give me space, or if he thought I was giving him space, but it was killing me. Every time we looked at each other, I thought back on the conversation we had. He said that he loved me, but I still struggled with accepting it. He still stared at Bella and I played it off as blood lust since he was a vampire, after all. But sometimes, I would catch him and see the look on his face. Frustration, interest, and something else I couldn't quite make out. It looked like what I would call a mix of obsession and lust. It was scary to see that in him.

This morning was like any other. Wake up, shower, get dressed, eat, talk to whichever Cullen was around, and then go to school. Since I've been riding with Alice, I got to talk to Jasper more since they're married and do everything together. It was nice since I got to learn more about him, but it was a bit of a bad idea. I don't know if vampires are just really horny all the time or what, but I think if I watch both of them make out while the other is driving again, I'm going to lose it. And Alice is very energetic, too. Sometimes I would get into her car and she would blast some random 2005 pop song that shook the entire car because of the bass while yelling something over it.

This morning it was a bit different. When I was about to head over to Alice's car, Edward appeared from nowhere and blocked my path. I let out a frustrated sigh.

"Do you mind?" I said. I tapped my foot on the wooden floor.

"I want you to ride with me today." He said. It wasn't a question or statement, but more like a demand.

Of course, if I said no, he wouldn't stop me, but I know he would throw a fit. Even though everyone in this house has been alive since the 1900s, only Esme was older than 25. No matter how mature they may seem, and how much they know, most of the Cullens lacked a fully developed brain. No matter how great they are, the Cullens were flawed and sometimes lacked critical thinking. But I still loved all of them; it made them feel more human.

Anyway, here I sat in Edward's car, both of us refusing to talk or make eye contact. I regret agreeing to come along. Classical music filled the car–probably something by Debussy. This man listens to Clair De Lune--one of the most popular classical songs--and thinks he's so different and cool.

"Hey, even though it's popular, it's still good." He said, smirking. I let out a dry chuckle as I looked out the window.

"Yeah," I said. The conversation quickly died.

We had arrived at school earlier than everyone else. Edward killed the engine, and we sat there in silence. Neither one of us dared to talk or move; no one wanted to break the atmosphere that we had put ourselves in. I looked at him and saw his golden eyes. Butterflies erupted in my stomach as he looked at me. I felt myself go into a trance-like state because of his beauty. It completely drew me into him and felt that I couldn't escape. My breathing hitched. He opened his mouth before closing it again. I could tell that he wanted to say something but was struggling with the words. Finally, I felt strong enough to look away, breaking the spell that he had cast on me. I sighed and got out of the car; the door slamming behind me. It didn't take long to hear the other door slam as well.
