What have you done today?
Johanna M. Geiger
I have sat in silence, monitored the existence of the mint leaves,
the buzzing bees and the batch of marigolds growing on the front porch.
I have glanced at the neighbor’s belongings hanging over the railing
and run a load of bedroom sheets, beach towels, and daily washcloths.
I ate the leftovers from last night’s experimental dinner –
it was terrible, in case you didn’t remember.
I have considered the state of things and have determined that
though change would be interesting, it would also be a lot of work.
I have participated in the ritual of soap operas, Sesame Street,
and trash talk shows and found them all disappointing compared to memory.
I have started a book about writing, but won’t finish it. I have also started a dozen thoughts
on how to begin poems – none of which will get me anywhere but right here.
