I've just finished plotting down how the story will end and I can't wait to write it out for you all! Here are some questions some people have asked/ I want to clarify for now!
Q: "When is Shinobu going to get together with the reader?"
A: I think their relationship is a bit like a rocking boat right now. There's a lot of characterization that has to be done and issues within Y/N that need to be highlighted so the story can move forward properly. For now, Y/N is simply trying to get over their trauma and background issues while learning how to handle their overwhelming harbored feelings-- if you ask me, this isn't a very healthy combination because they'll instead try to look for validation in Shinobu (who is equally conflicted and currently very busy) and will ruin their relationship. I focus on individual characters before jumping into relationships to make sure it feels real enough. Thank you for being patient about it!
Q: "Will the reader or Shinobu be alive at the end of the story?"
A: I have thought of this and I've decided on one answer: we'll have a happy ending. I won't spoil the ending any further or how a happy ending will be achieved, but I'll tell you now that a sad ending from this type of fanfiction is quite unlikely. Here are some endings I've considered (so you know my thought process and get further convinced I'm not three raccoons in a trench coat):
1. Shinobu survives Douma because Kanao comes earlier and gets to attack him before he can fully absorb her into his body, and they are joined shortly by Inosuke. Instead of the 37kg of poison coming from Shinobu to weaken him all by herself, they use sacks of wisteria to first corner Douma and liquidize some sort of poison to make sure he has no way out. While they use their final forms/most powerful techniques (Y/N activates their mark after Douma's ice is crawling against their body. This instead plays with their body temperature to satisfy the first condition of the mark: a body temperature over 39°C. Then, they'll use their final form while exerting enough force to shatter the ice and enough speed to outrun Douma's Blood Demon Art to satisfy the second: a heartbeat rate of over 200bpm.) Shinobu's sword will sort of have an outburst at the end where all the poison contained within her sheath and blade will pour out everything and further weaken Douma to the point where his head can easily be destroyed.
2. Y/N has to make a sacrifice in the Douma fight where they die alongside Shinobu and get reunited with her and Kanae in the afterlife, meaning the story immediately jumps to the reincarnation part or a pre-epilogue.
3. They both live after the Muzan fight with permanent scars and damage and live a cliche happily ever after.
Q: "If this wasn't about Shinobu, who would it have been about?"
A: I think I figured out the plot after deciding that I would write a Shinobu fanfiction for the hell of it. But I think the plot could have suited Obanai with a few major changes. Essentially, it will follow the story of the cold-hearted serpent pillar who is secretly harboring feelings for his comrade and how their relationship develops as Iguro learns to accept himself and get over his insecurities, while also realizing that even though he considers himself a nasty monster, he is very much worthy of love.
Q: "What is the reader supposed to be like in the story?"
A: I remember someone asking this question while I tried to figure out what it means. But basically, the reader is just you alone. If you're 5'2, then the character is 5'2. If you have red hair, then so does Y/N. In terms of personality though, (because it's the one thing I have control over), Y/N would be an ENFP. I did a bit of research here and I'm not sure if I managed to portray it right but their personality is supposed to be the best match for Shinobu, who is INTJ. If you have anything to say or anything to suggest for this to make it more evident, please tell me!
Q: "What are you like, actually?"
A: I think this is the only personal question I've been asked. I'm about 5'1 or 5'2. I'm not very tall, unfortunately. I don't know how old you think I am, but I'll give you a range. I'm 14 years of age. (A disappointment to Nezuko and Muichiro.) My MBTI type is ENTP 7w8 but I need to update it soon. I really like cats. I'd say I'm pretty extroverted but I do like avoiding certain people; other than that I will wave my hand across the hallway to say hi to you.
