LETTER 13

Dear Louise,

Today I went to Jules' apartment in Monaco for the first time in a couple of years. I'm going to be honest, I don't know why, I just felt like it.

I found all those letters for your brother in the mailbox. I'm sorry I read them but I was confused about the fact you were sending letters to an empty apartment.

Reading those broke my heart in pieces. I realised that everything your parents have been telling my mom, my brothers and me have been nothing but lies. « Oh she's doing just fine » - « She is handling the situation amazingly » - « She completely moved on » - « She's busy working hard » has been nothing but lies. Or maybe it isn't ?

I believe you've also been lying to them that you were alright, stressed they would freak out after already losing one of their children.

Or maybe they've been delusional, not wanting to think of the possibility that they could lose their second child.

Yet I want you to be sure that we (Mom, Lorenzo, Charles and I - Charles a little bit less than the rest of us) have been asking about you a lot. Also, you were invited this weekend, we asked your parents to offer you to come but told us you were busy.

Another thing : we were best friends. Please never doubt that. We even were the bestest of friends. I knew you by heart and you knew me by heart, we were inseparable. It wasn't just a play pretend, it was real.

Hopefully, this letter finds you in the shortest time.

I'll come back to the apartment soon to read your reply.

Yours truly

Arthur
