CHAPTER THREE || UNWORTHY
cause in my heart and in my head, i'll never take back the things i said

——— TRISTON AND THOR ENTERED A STORE with a sign out from that read "Pet Store", which made Triston assume they kept horses. Apparently, his father had the same thought, because the moment they stepped inside, Thor strode confidently to the counter.

"We need a horse," Thor announced.

The clerk blinked at them.

"Uh... sorry, we don't sell horses," he said. "Just dogs, cats, birds."

"Then give us one of those, large enough to ride," Triston said but the clerk continued to stare at them confused.

Before the situation could get any stronger, a horn blared from outside. Both Asgardians turned toward the sound.

Through the opened doors, outside the shop, Jane sat behind the wheel of her SUV, leaning out the window with a wide smile.

"You still need a lift?" she called.

Triston blinked in surprise, then glanced at his father, who was already grinning from ear to ear.

——— DRIVING OFF INTO THE DESERT, the SUV bounced over the rugged terrain as storm clouds gathered across the horizon. Jane gripped the wheel tightly as adrenaline coursed through her veins. She was nervous and exhilarated all at once.

Thor sat in the passenger seat, upbeat and eager for battle. While Triston sat in the back, his mind fixed on getting home.

"I've never done anything like this before," Jane said breathlessly, glancing between them. "Have you guys ever done anything like this before?"

Thor chuckled, amused by her excitement.

"Many times," he replied.

"Unfortunately," Triston muttered dryly, earning a glare from his father. "But you're brave to do it," he added and Thor smiled at him.

"They just stole my entire life's work. I really don't have anything left to loose," Jane said fiercely and Triston looked at her through the rearview mirror, his expression softening with sympathy.

When they'd first gotten into the vehicle, Jane had explained that her entire lab, all her research — had been confiscated by some organization called S.H.I.E.L.D. Triston didn't fully understand who or what they were, but he did understand loss. And she was hurting.
