The next day, Ember, Mei, MK, Sandy, and Mo were crowded around Monkey Mech. Mei and MK were battling it out, and it looked like Mei had the upper hand. Sandy was trying to help MK by shouting out tips, while Ember was cheering for Mei.

"Hah! Button mash all you want, MK! You'll never defeat my ancient galloping fury power!!" Mei laughed.

"That's it, Mei! Finish him off!"

"Up smash! Up smash!"

"I'm trying, Sandy! Okay?! I'm trying, I'm trying!" MK panicked, frantically mashing the buttons to no avail.

Mei let out an evil laugh. "No one can defeat me!"

Then her phone rang. She checked it, and looked nervous. "Uh, oh boy. I gotta take this." She stepped away.

Ember was gonna go see what was up, when she saw MK stealthily using this opportunity to defeat Mei's character.

Oh heck no, not on her watch.

You could probably imagine his disbelief and shock when his character wound up dead a couple seconds later. Ember let out an evil cackle.

"Fool! You really thought that I would let you defeat Mei in Monkey Mech and let her lose her hard-earned high score?!" The blue-haired demon grinned evilly, surrounded by a dark aura. MK whined in defeat.

"My parents, they uh, want me to house sit." Mei was explaining to Sandy. Her deed finished, Ember walked over next to Mei to listen to her. Mei put a hand on her arm, clearly bothered.

"Me and my parents... We're—"

"Uh, did Mei say... sleepover at her house?!" MK exclaimed, suddenly dressed in pajamas. Ember looked around, confused.

"Where did you even get— You know what? Whatever." She shrugged.

"Wha...?! No! My parents wouldn't want—" Mei was cut off by the boy's excitement and pleading. Eventually, in the end, she caved in and sighed in defeat.

"Sleepover it is." She muttered. MK cheered and rambled on about how he would bring his Monkey King DVDs. Meanwhile, Ember walked over to Mei and put a hand on her shoulder.

"Hey... you okay? I can talk them out of it, if you want me to." She suggested. Mei shook her head.

"No, no, it's fine. It's just, well, me and my parents don't always see eye to eye, if you know what I mean." Mei explained. Ember sighed.

"...I know how that feels, believe me. Like, my parents would scold me for little things like playing in the dirt! I mean, come on! It's not like that stuff's permanent!" The demon shook her head. Mei nodded.

"Right?! I mean, it's like, you want to make them proud and stuff, but at the same time, you just wanna be yourself, even if they don't want that of you." Mei frowned sadly. Ember pulled her into a hug to reassure her.

"Well, don't worry. I'll make sure they won't destroy anything. I'm here for you, girl." She smiled. Mei mumbled a 'thanks' into Ember's shoulder. Ember laughed at her sudden tiredness, before breaking the hug and following after MK.

~~~
"Woah!!!" MK gasped at the sight of Mei's shiny house. "This place is awesome! Growing up here must have been great!"
Mei didn't share her friend's enthusiasm. She let out an awkward chuckle. "Uh, yeah, I guess. But... I dunno."
She turned her head, and her friends looked at her, concern and confusion etched on their faces.
"When I was growing up, I just wanted to be rough and tumble. Break stuff! Look at bugs! You know, just normal girl stuff. But... when you live in a house that's basically a museum, and you come from a long line of ancient, noble dragons... that's pretty... frowned upon." Mei looked up at her friends. Then, she plastered a fake smile on her face, attempting to change the mood.
