"Okay, I think I got it this time, I swear! Pigsy, step back!"

The pig sweat dropped, and not just because of the rising temperature. "Don't gotta tell me twice. Just please, for the love of all the Noodle Gods out there, don't ruin my pot."

Ember laughed nervously. "Oh, please, Pigsy! Trust me! Why would I ever let a thing like that happen?"

"Uh, you let it happen to his spoo—"

"Hey, we don't talk about that." Ember interrupted Rosalina. "Plus, it wasn't even his! It was one of my plastic spoons, for crying out loud! That thing was bound to melt!"

"Okay," Pigsy interrupted her. "Just remember, you don't want the soup to burn. So, try going for a little fire at first, and then—"

He was interrupted when a massive blaze of blue flames erupted from Ember's palms, completely covering the pot on the stove.

"Huh?! What'd ya say!?" She shouted over her shoulder.

Tang, Mei, Rosalina, and Pigsy all instantly leapt behind the counter in order to protect themselves from the blue inferno. After a few seconds, the fire died down, and when the gang lifted their heads over the countertop, they saw a cheerful Ember, holding the handles of the pot with both hands and smoke coming off her body.

"Done! Look, it's not even burnt this time!" She smiled, holding out the soup. When Pigsy reached to grab the pot, he immediately let go of it and shrieked.

"AGH! It burns! How are you holding it?!" He shouted, blowing on his burnt hand.

Ember winced. "Ooh. Forgot to warn you. I guess it's just because I'm a demon and I can withstand hotter temperatures. Here, I'll get you something for that hand."

She exited the shop and walked up the steps to the apartment, which, shockingly, looked as though it was never burnt down by Red Son a few days ago. Ember remembered that MK had some cream for burns somewhere in all that clutter, so she got searching.

After some ten minutes of searching with no luck, Ember was ready to just give up and ask if there was any burn cream anywhere else when an explosion shook the apartment and sent Ember tumbling to the ground.

"Ow! What the heck—?!"

Getting up from the ground, she rubbed her head where it hurt. Lightly shaking her head, Ember cautiously made her way to the window. Peeking through, she gasped in shock when she saw a massive, purple shadow beast over the city.

Ember stood there for a second, debating whether she should go fight the monster now or get her friends. Deciding that there's no time to lose, she quickly threw open the window and steadied herself on the cold metal of the balcony, preparing to leap.

Lighting up her fists, Ember quickly readied herself and shot upwards, preparing a fiery punch.

Next thing she knew, she was slammed into the pavement by a large fist.

~~~
"...m! ...Em! EMBER!"
Groaning, Ember opened her eyes. Blinking, she managed to make out the worried face of Mei. Some part of her informed herself that she was still on the street where she fell.
"...Mei? What time is it—?"
Ember was interrupted when Mei yanked her off the floor and pulled her into a tight hug.
"EM! Thank the gods!! We saw you hit the street— I— I didn't see you moving at all— I— I thought you were dead you... you stupid!" Mei spluttered, words coming out in a rush.
