06 | A Not so Royal Outing

THE morning came around faster than expected, and one minute, Katamina was peacefully lying on her back in bed, and the next minute she was being woken up at exactly Four o'clock, to get ready for her hunt with the Grand Duke.

Dressed in bright red threads, matching red bottoms, ankle boots, paired with a mesh feather hat to protect her hair from low-hanging branches, mosquitoes and all sorts, Katamina stood before the palace, watching as the stable boy -- a slender boy with dirt stretched across the front of his shirt and his thin face, brought out a gorgeous light Brown Mare from the Stables.

She'd ridden a horse once before in her childhood, and the memory was slowly resurfacing as she gazed at the beautiful horse. She took a few steps in her direction, and held out her hands to let it sniff her fingers.

The Mare did so, and soon let her run her fingers through its silky mane.

''She likes you.'' Came the gentle voice of the stable boy. He towered over her five-foot-two, by at least seven or eight inches, and couldn't be any older than sixteen or seventeen.

''What's her name?'' She smiled. She liked her too.

He brushed slender fingers over her mane, the horse. ''This is Coco. She loves cuddles, and going for walks.''

''Pleasure to meet you, Coco.''

The horse neighed in response.

''Elijah.'' The voice came from behind them as Prince George, the Duke of Buckinghamshire, approached, Leopold in tow with the Duke's blood bay horse.

The boy straightened up, bowing his head slightly. ''Your Grace.''

''See to it that the other horses are fed, bathed, and let out to stretch their legs.''

''Yes, sir.'' Handing Katamina the reigns, he lowered his voice, whispering. ''Good luck.''

''Thanks?''

As soon as Elijah was off, she gained the duke's full attention. ''Ellis.''

''Your grace.'' She curtsied, before adding. ''Leopold.''

''My lady,'' The tired ginger greeted lightly, adjusting the saddle on both horses. ''You clean up nicely. It's nice to see you up all bright and early.''

If only he would've saw her when she first woke up. That wouldn't have been such a pleasant sight.

The sky was a mixture of Purple and Grey Hues, the Sun still asleep for the most part, and hiding behind a couple of lingering stars.

A few early-birds tweeted, and the wind blew her hair back from her shoulders.

As soon as she regained her senses, she realized Lord Felipe was approaching them both with a grey Horse of his own, and a few hunting rifles strung on his back.
