16 | A Royal leverage
IT had been a couple of days since Katamina had seen Lord Felipe last. Her nerves had been keeping her from doing any socialization, so conversation with Lillia was minimum, until she was sure her identity was safe.
The man was so unpredictable, she didn't know what he would do with the information, which meant a talk with him was due. She also knew she needed to have a talk with Elijah, to confirm whether or not her assumptions about the male he was into, were true or not.
''Hey! Watch out -- ''
When she finally was pulled from her torpor, it was already too late, The two crashed to the floor upon impact.
She had bumped into the man carrying a million letters. He didn't 'openly' express his disdain, but the look on his face said so much as clearly.
''Pardon me.'' She apologized, bending down to help him clean up the mess she had caused, however, one particular letter caught her eye.
Lady Ellis
She grabbed it, before he could notice, holding it under her armpit until they finished cleaning up the envelopes, and he was on his merry way.
With her heart on her sleeve, she ripped the envelope open, skimming through the cursive words.
Your Majesty, I am sorry to inform you that the Lady Ellis you currently have staying in your Palace, is simply an impersonator of the real Lady Ellis, me --
Change of plans, she'd have to rain-check her talk with Elijah, and go see the older man now.
It wasn't that hard to find him considering the man bathed in Wealth, and had one of the biggest office's in the entire Palace. That, and the fact all she had to do was lie and tell a maid she had an appointment with him, and that she didn't know where to find him, and the lady would point her in the direction. No questions asked.
What she did not expect to see when she approached the office, was Prince George and his uncle to be engaged in a conversation already.
She froze.
Lord Felipe smiled secretly, standing a couple of inches behind the Duke, whilst, Prince George tensed. ''What are you doing in here?''
''I . . . I have -- '' She stuttered, a million and one thoughts running through her head. What if he told him? What if the duke knew?
''She has an appointment with me, Georgie. Lay off.''
The duke looked from her to him to see if they were telling the truth, before probably deciding that they were, and making his swift departure. ''I'll see you later,''
''And you, Georgie.'' He waved, that secretive twang in his eye.
As soon as the Duke was out of sight, Lord Felipe rounded the desk, facing her directly. ''I presume, you're here to see what I want in return for not exposing you to the entire palace?''
She absolutely hated this, keeping her thoughts away from her face.
''What do you want me to do?'' She demanded. ''I'm not doing anything degrading, anything embarrassing, and I'm not doing anything with you.''
His lips lifted in a condescending smile as he circled her like prey.
She held her ground, unwavering.
''That's the thing, my lady. I don't want you doing anything like that, you've been here long enough. What I want you to do is leave.'' He announced. ''Pack your bags and leave the Palace, and stop terrorizing my family with your fake identity, and degrading Lady Ellis' image, with your foolery.''
Her heart dropped, but she kept her chin up. ''That's it?''
''That's it.'' He confirmed, lips in a straight line. ''Are you willing to do that?''
''You're asking me, if I'm willing to leave to save my own arse, like the answer isn't obvious.''
He took a seat on the edge of his desk, eyes ablaze. ''Then what are you waiting for?''
With her lips curled in a snarl, she curtsied, fighting the internal urge to stick her middle finger up instead. ''My Lord.''
''My lady,'' He taunted, his voice following her as she exited his office.
She shrunk into a secluded hallway, as slow footsteps echoed throughout the corridor.
Casting a glance from left to right, a distinctly familiar blonde entered his office right after her.
Her eyes widened.
What was Antoinette of all people doing visiting the older male?
She shook her head.
It wasn't any of her business. She was leaving. She was leaving.
She packed her bags as soon as she made it back into her room, stripping the drawers of her things, and leaving behind the dresses and gowns that weren't even rightfully hers.
Pulling the zipper of the last bag with an audible, ziiiiiip! She was exiting the room, bags in hand, dipping back into her room as more footsteps passed.
She waited.
One
Two
Three, beats of a second before gently opening the door, jumping back, eyes wide as she collided into the Royal Prince, dropping her suitcases.
''Y - your highness!''
Prince Alexander gazed at her tenderly, ''Hey, have you got a moment?''
''I don't know, I'm -- '' She glanced at her suitcases. ''I'm pretty busy.''
''Oh, right, with the Hunt thing?''
''What? '' She demanded. ''What Hunt thing?''
''My brother is taking you all out on another Royal Hunt....? Didn't you know?''
Wait--
Was that what he had meant by 'I'll see you later?' was he not talking about his Uncle?
Bloody hell.
''I'm late!'' She exclaimed, ''Pardon me, your Highness, but I am fashionably late, and I happen to have a reputation of showing up to things late, so if we could schedule this another time -- ''
He laughed, stepping out of her way.
