Jared continued down the hallway with a sigh. "Why did we get the shitty job again?"
Brian sighed, shaking his head. "Let's just keep looking."
"Or we could take a break?" Jared's shoulders sagged as Brian stared at him. "Or we could keep looking."
"We need to find something."
Before Jared could answer, his phone started ringing. He sighed as he picked up and pressed it to his ear. "Hello?"
"Hey. We found a place to stay." Kassidy said.
"That's great!"
"How's the whole finding food thing going?"
"Umm... skip."
"You guys haven't found anything?"
Jared groaned. "Unfortunately, no. But at least you guys found us somewhere to stay."
"Yeah. We also found out there's two other people on the ship."
"Really?"
"Yeah. A woman named Charity and her boyfriend Lonnie. And they know how we can get out of here!"
"That's great! How?"
"Well... that's the slightly complicated part. We need some kind of key card, and neither one of them have access to one."
"Damn."
After a moment of silence, Kassidy sighed. "Just try to find something, okay? And Jared, stay safe."
"I will."
"Love you, bro."
"Love you too."
Jared hung up and slipped his phone back into his pocket, glad to see he at least still had some service on the ship.
"So what was that about?" Brian asked.
"The girls found a place to stay. They also know what we need to do to get off of this thing."
"Really? How?"
"They met two other people that apparently live on the ship. We need some kind of keycard, but neither one of them has one."
"At least we have something to start with."
They continued walking until finally, Jared grinned. "There's some food in here."
Brian grabbed multiple boxes before grabbing a jug of water, and Jared did the same.
They quietly made their way back into the hallway, trying to move as stealthily as possible while carrying all of the food and drinks.
After a long time of attempting to navigate the ship, they finally found the classroom Kassidy had told Jared about.
Kassidy let out a squeal as she pulled Jared into a hug. "Thank god you're okay!"
"Yeah, we're good. And we managed to find some food.""Thank god."
Stefanie looked up from her phone. "Finally! I've been starving!"
"What are you doing?" Brian asked.
"Playing games on my phone."
"Shouldn't you try not to use it in case we need them later?"
"But this is so booooorrriiiinnnggg." She moaned, setting her phone down.
Jared rolled his eyes, walking over to where Leanne and who he assumed was Charity were standing
"What does this say?" Leanne asked softly.
"That top line says where do you live?. The line beneath it says I live on the Gamma Stellaris.." Charity explained.
"The Gamma Stellaris. That name is so beautiful." Leanne whispered. "So they really speak in this language?"
"Actually, no. This is only their written language. They actually speak a lot of languages we speak on Earth. Since they know Lonnie and I speak English, that's what most of the aliens speak with us."
"That's insane." Jared said, studying the chalkboard. "How do they know so much?"
Charity shrugged. "Good question."
"Well, we should probably get settled in for the night." Kassidy said softly. "And even though I'd love to call home, it's not like mom and dad would believe this shit."
"Yeah." Jared whispered. "They wouldn't. Let's just get some sleep and figure this out tomorrow."
