Jared paced anxiously back and forth. For starters, they were staying in a supply closet now which was a major glow down from the classroom.
But more importantly, Lonnie would be back any moment with his daughter. Jared couldn't shake the anxious feeling he had about the whole affair. What if he tried to turn them in to get Charity out of being executed?!
"You worry too much." Kassidy said softly.
"I don't think it's me being paranoid. I would do it in his situation."
"Do what?" Stefanie asked softly.
"Nothing."
Kassidy sighed. "You can't just keep nonchalantly talking to me like everyone else know I'm here. You should tell the others about me. They'll understand."
"No they won't. They'll think I've gone insane."
"Well, it's probably a bit late for that."
Lonnie rushed into the room, a girl following behind him. She had dark red, straight hair with freckles dusting her nose. Her brown eyes scanned over the group before they stopped on Jared, squinting skeptically.
"What?" Jared hissed softly.
She scowled, looking away from him. "Nothing."
Jared's nose scrunched as he grit his teeth. "If you have something to say just say it."
"What? I'm supposed to just automatically like one of the assholes who has my mom on death row right now?"
"Hruyyus!" Lonnie hissed softly. "Don't go picking fights!"
"I can't help it, the guy has a bad vibe around him. And again, he has mom up for execution."
"Why you-" Jared started with a hiss.
"Enough!" Lonnie snapped. "Charity is going to be executed and your friend could be facing a punishment just as bad! So could you two stop bickering and at least try to work together?!"
Jared slowly sighed. "Alright, I get it."
"I suppose this wouldn't be my first time working with a dickwad."
Jared tried to hold back a growl.
Kassidy let out a laugh. "Personally, I love this girl."
"What's the last thing Xkmotg said?" Lonnie asked softly.
"She sent out an invitation to everyone on the ship. She's making mom's execution public, proabbly to draw you all into attending so she can jump you."
"So what do we do?" Brian asked.
"I may be able to sabotage the execution. I should be able to get in and out without even being noticed." Hruyyus answered, smirking.
Lonnie shook his head. "That's too risky, she could catch you."
Jared went to nod in agreement but stopped when Hruyyus glared at him, pure murder in her eyes. He slowly raised his hands up in surrender, giving her a look that said whatever psycho.
"This girl keeps getting better and better." Kassidy said with a smirk. "You need someone to stop you from being a dumbass now that I'm gone."
Jared quietly shushed her, refusing to look at her.
"DON'T YOU DARE SHUSH ME!"
Hruyyus quirked an eyebrow. "Who'd you just shush? No one said anything."
Brian slowly cleared his throat. "His sister Kassidy died on the ship. He hasn't quite let go of her yet."
"Oh. I'm sorry for your loss." Hruyyus said quietly, her face going slightly red.
"Uh, thanks. I guess."
"So, sorry to be morbid with the subject change, but has there been any discussion as to how they'll execute Charity?" Brian asked softly after a long silence.
"Guillotine." Hruyyus muttered.
"Brutal."
"Agreed. Which is why we need to stop it."
"But what can we do without getting caught?" Jared asked softly.
"I can sabotage the guillotine before the execution even starts. I'll sneak in the night before." Hruyyus says.
Stefanie quirked an eyebrow. "Can you do that?"
"Sure I can."
Lonnie shook his head. "That's too risky. When things go wrong she'll know it was because of you."
"I won't leave my mother in danger! And no she won't! A lot of our execution equipment is old, she won't question it much of something acts up. And I'm willing to put myself in some danger to save my mom!"
"Hruyyus-"
"I'll be okay, dad."
He slowly sighed. "You leave at the first sign of danger."
"Of course."
Lonnie was still clearly uneasy about the idea of letting his daughter put herself in danger, but he didn't make another move to protest.
Kassidy slowly sighed. "I couldn't imagine being able to do something like that. He's really taking a gamble. He could end up losing them both."
"It's gonna be fine. They'll both be fine." Jared muttered.
Hruyyus quirked an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"
"Nothing."
Her eyes scanned over him again, pure murder glinting within them.
Jared had to stop himself from snapping at her to leave him alone and get over whatever weird issue she had with him. But somehow, he managed to restrain himself enough to not cause an issue in front of everyone else.
