The habit of sanity

It was great to hear her laughing. I haven't heard Maya laugh ever since that day when we got kidnapped. They later told me what I had said, and I had to admit it was kind of funny. They told me all that had happened, and then we set off. If you expected us to just stay in that cave waiting for it to collapse on us, you would be extremely wrong. Peter, as Patterson told us we could call him, said there was a town nearby where we could buy stuff with his credit card.

---------------------------------

How we ever stole the Lamborghini, only the manager may ever know. You see, we were really just gonna buy an old, beat-up who-knows-what-kind-of-car-this-is car. However, before I even knew what was happening, I was punching the manager in the face and Peter was hot-wiring the car so we could leave. I didn't even know what was happening, but Peter told me later. It's like, I sorta knew what was happening, but I had no idea what I was doing or why.

"Will! Do you know how to drive?!?"

"Yeah! I think so..." I hollered back to Peter. My town is weird like that, I already have my permit. Yeah I know, I wouldn't want to see some kids I know driving at 15 either.

"Ok, then you are driving!" Uh oh... this car, you see, is a stick shift... Yeah, I'll have fun with that. "HEELP!!!!!" Oh no, the manager had Maya in a choke hold...

"Maya!! I ran over and elbowed the actually friendly man. I was no longer under the influence of whatever was influencing me. I felt bad for the man, I didn't want to be doing this. "Are you ok Maya?" I was worried about her.

"Well," she wheezed, "if hardly being able to breathe and worried that we are going to get arrested is ok, then sure." VROOOM!! I heard in the background...

"FOUND THE KEYS!" I heard Peter yell from the car.(Peter later told me that the keys were in the console, so he didn't need to hot-wire the car.)

"Will!! Grab some gas cans and we will fill them up at a station." Again, I felt myself doing it, but I couldn't control it. What's going on here? I grabbed quite a few cans, 10 maybe. I ran to the car and told Peter to go get Maya and get her to the backseat. Let's see, driving a stick shift. 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th and 6th gears, and then reverse.

"Everybody in?" I hollered over the rain, which happened to start right as we were stealing a car...I know right? Weird. Hit the gas, engage the clutch, shift to second, disengage the clutch, accelerate, look up, turn steering wheel as necessary, repeat with different gears. Ok, this should be easy enough, the optimistic side of me said. Of course, the pessimistic side said, your going to kill yourself, along with your friends, in a fiery crash; you'll never get to say goodbye, and you will die slowly and painfully dangling from a seatbelt that worked a bit too well. Don't you just love that pessimistic side? So cheerful, so caring.

----------------------------------

Ok, so first, reverse out of spot. WHAAM! Then the sirens of car alarms, I might've hit a car or two...hehe."WIIIIL!!!" I heard her screams from the backseat.

"Yeah, yeah I know I'm a terrible driver, give me a chance." I turned out of the parking lot, and onto the main road. Speed limit: 30 mph. Oh whatever, it's 11:00 at night. I shifted into 4th and started going 65.(such a rebel, aren't I?) A road sign read, Colombia Missouri: Outskirts 5.5 miles. Score! I saw Peter on a smartphone,

"Hey Peter, program the address 42547 Alberta street, Jackson, Missouri into your GPS, I know a place where we can stay."

"Whoah, you know somebody besides me??" Maya said jokingly.

"Hmm...well good point. What if I told you that I owned a house?"

"Well, I wouldn't believe you." She said in an exasperated tone.

"Ok. Well, then it will come as a shock when I drive you there, won't it?"

"Will! I don't believe that you have a house!" "Maya! It's true. You know that key I always wore around my neck?" She replied hesitantly, like she knew she was about to lose an argument, which she was.

"Yep. The one I stole one time thinking it was to that chest you told me you kept your diary in? I really wanted to see inside that diary, but it wasn't the right key." The silence that followed that was soo weird. "Oh wait, did you not know about that?"

*crickets chirp in background*

"Weell, anyways, that key is to my house. So, yeah." I secretly pay the bills every month with my little allowance. The reason the bill is so little is because nothing is being used in the house.

"LOOK OUT!!!!" Maya hollered at the top of her lungs. You see, I had forgotten the look up and make sure you are not about to die step. Silly me. I immediately jerked the wheel right before we hit the school bus, and then immediately crashed into the ominous black S.U.V. in the lane next to us.

Cliffhanger, eh? I'll try to publish more soon, but no promises.
