The One with the Fortune Cookie (Part 2)

{6 months later}

Irene's POV

I've been going back to the vet clinic where Lisa is currently working so she can check and treat my pets. I always request for her from the clinic's receptionist. To my surprise, she's really in demand. Most of the pet's owners are requesting for her too. Good thing, Somi, their receptionist, has become close to me and she prioritizes all my appointments.

Nayeon: So, how's the new mommy doing?

I glared at Nayeon because she's teasing me again. She just chuckled as she checked some consignment papers. I love Nayeon but sometimes I hate it when she knows everything that's going on with my life right now. Especially, whenever she uses the information she has against me to tease me.

Nayeon: You already have what, 4? Nope. 5 kids and you're still not asking me to be one of their godmother.

Her chuckle has turned to laugh now. I crumpled a scratch paper and threw it at her. Teasing me has become her pastime. I think she's more enjoying teasing me than working. I just sighed and continued doing some paperwork while there's still no customers in the shop.

Nayeon: I told you to just follow my advice and ask her already. It's been months now Rene and she still hasn't asked you out on a date yet. My gosh. You already adopted 4 cats and a freaking horse just so you can see and talk to the hot vet and yet you guys are still in a vet and pet owner relationship.

"I told you, Love is not a horse! He's a doberman."

She's right. I think I've become a pathetic loser who couldn't ask the woman I like so I ended up adopting 5 animals just so I could see and talk to her.

What have I become? I am not like this. I don't go chasing people but here I am, adopting 5 animals just so I could get close to her.

"All those flirty pick-up lines and she couldn't even ask me on a date." I said to myself and heaved a sigh.

Nayeon: Geez. Easy on the paper. They didn't do anything to you.

I didn't notice I was flipping the papers hard causing some of it to rip.

"Wait, What if she didn't know that I'm single now and not seeing anybody?" I asked myself.

Maybe that's the reason why she never asked me out. She might be thinking I'm still with my ex-boyfriend.

I finally broke up with my boyfriend when he was back in LA again. Fortunately, his parents decided to migrate to the US. It's just him who doesn't like it there and wants to go back here.

At first, he kept on insisting that we can still continue our relationship as a long-distance relationship but I really didn't want to anymore. He started harassing me through my social media accounts so I ended up blocking him.

I must say, I finally felt free and happy after a long time. I never knew that getting out of a very toxic relationship is extremely liberating. I finally felt alive.

I remember that day when Ningning told me where Lisa is currently working. The next day, I drove off to the animal clinic but since I don't have any purpose there besides seeing Lisa, I didn't go inside.

I think the universe is on my side because a few days after that, I saw a stray cat in the alley between Wang-ton Wok and our perfume shop. I immediately took him to the animal clinic where Lisa was at.

I named the stray cat, Louis.

I found out there were other cats and dogs in the clinic that are up for adoption. That's where I adopted my other cats which are Lego, Lily, Luca and my dog Love. Because of Lisa, I was inspired to adopt animals.
