First of June,
the month of parties, drinks, ocean breeze and memories. The last summer before everyone separate for collage. The new begging. The new start. Of course this new and last chapter was going to be drunk away on the first night.
As the moon was high in the sky. The water calmly pushing the sand, the tradition never changed. People grew, new people came but the rules stayed the same. The fire story. As the teens gathered around the fire pit made from some stone and old boards, Summer put her phone in the pocket nervous.
The nervous emotions vanished when he sat down across her. She haven't seen him around. And new things and change bothered her a lot. She could see only an unknown silhouette sitting on a free spot on the sand.
"So as the tradition is set, Delaware is first." Without doing any introducing he looked like he knew a lot about 'The fire story'. Taking a deep breath, knowing deep down that she wanted answers. Summer hated question without having an explained answer. It eats her inside out. It burned her soul.
"For a first night you look well educated." She had a smirk on her angelic face. This is Summer's way of having things her way - being cold and bitchy.
"You have no idea, Sum." The smile on her face fell. For a moment she felt like a lost puppy without protection. The thoughts kept running in her head, making a big mess. Chaos. Her eyes darken from the answer she got. Her skin felt the coldness of the breeze. For a moment she forgot how to talk or how to speak.
"I think for using my chance and giving the word to our new guest." That was the only thing that she could think of right now. Winning time wasn't her best power but the smartness she had was unique. She stood up taking a turn around the fire. Facing the interesting new person, she felt a ball in her chest. The vibe he gave was different. It was not like the rest of the drunk teens around them.
"Let me tell you all a story about a long line family." He came closer to her. Made her froze and not even breathing. "A family of liars." She took a step back. "A family of murderers." He placed both of his hands on her shoulders. Placing his mouth next to her ear she could smell the non amount of alcohol used. No drugs. Not even cigarettes. "Should I continue?" he whispered the scariest question in her ear.
It was not long before she moved to grab her phone and keys from the wood she sat at and head home. Thanks to everyones lust for drinking no one would remember any of this in the morning.
Because what would people say for the lonely sweet girl. Right?
Walking home alone, she knew that this summer is not going to be what she imagined. She thought she had more time. She thought that once she flies far away it won't come after her. But the curse came. The truth may be drained to the least lie that could be written in the books.
Closing the door behind her she knew one thing.
She needs to clear the family name.Switching the lights on in the library full of old books, she took a deep breath. The library itself wasn't big. a small amount of shelves with old books, a desk next to the window and a photo of the Delaware's family.
"I should have seen in coming, shouldn't I?" She turned around to face the same guy from earlier. She accept her destiny long ago, but she wanted three more months. No friends, no lovers, the only thing she had left in Oregon was the house, the books, the pictures and of course her family."I have no idea what you are talking about, princess." He smiled at her. His voice didn't sound violent but his looked killed her in at least ten different ways. "Actually, I need your help." Her eyes widen from the sound of these words. Was it all a dream for her?
"And because I know you would not say yes-." She was confused. Her emotions were mixed. What she had to feel, happy? Or concerned? Or scared? Summer felt all of them at the same moment.
"And how can a Delaware help you?" She placed the glass down without even waiting for him to end his thought. She sat on the end of the desk and looked at the broken tail on the floor.
"My father was in search for a necklace." For the first time in her life she had no idea what someone was talking about. She laughed and made two steps close to him. Then she stepped closer and closer until they were just inches away.
"Summer." She took her hand out of the pocket. Maybe this was the solution to all of the problems. Nobody in ages had asked a help from her family... What if this was her sign for a real new beginning.
Resting the coldness on his face he grabbed her hand placing it on his lips for a kiss. "Nice to be working with you, Miss Delaware." And again no introducing. She felt a small warmness from someone touching her arm with anything but calmness. She had felt lust and sins trough the years but never this kind of feeling.
A friendly feeling.
"You are not alone anymore." He whispered before leaving the room. Closing the door after himself made her concerned if she got the right choice or this is some sort of trap.
"I wished you were here." She placed her left arm on the family photo. Kissing the photo she placed it down from where she got it, opened the diary and wrote down only one thing.
"Stay"
