Y/n's POV
I was trying my damn hardest to hold back my giggles as Zalgo carried me on his back. It was a little too obvious that his servants were sneaking confused glances at the sight of their Lord carrying a human-like being on his back. Zalgo had also been making effort to stay in his own human form, which added to the peculiarity.
I took a look at Zalgo himself. He also seemed to be holding back some emotions as well, only he was doing his best to keep himself from looking irritated.
I rested my chin on his shoulder, "Hey, are you ok?"
He straightened himself a little bit at the sound of my voice in his ear, "Oh, I'm quite alright. Just trying to get used to something as strange as giving someone a piggy back ride...."
I pondered his words, "Ah, so to everyone else, seeing someone like yourself do something like this is quite out of the ordinary."
Zalgo frowned, "Yes, precisely."
I looked around at the nervous servants who were trying to not make their glances apparent.
"Do you have to keep them scared of you?" I asked, remembering the sweet yet terrified exterior of the spider seamstress demon I'd met.
Zalgo sighed, closing his eyes and lowering his head, "I don't expect something like you to understand, what with your sense of kindness and compassion and all. I treat them exactly how I think they deserve to be treated, it's as simple as that."
My eyes furrow with worry, "But wouldn't they be more appreciable if they weren't as scared of you as they are now?"
Zalgo's eyebrows narrowed ever so slightly, "I do not desire to get to know them like you do. As long as they can do their job, I don't care what happens to them."
"But-"
"Y/n." Zalgo's voice was hardened. "I do not expect for you to understand, therefore I see no point in trying to see eye to eye at the moment. Please... just drop it."
Zalgo's voice softened at that last sentence.
My expression saddened as I lay my chin on his shoulder in defeat.
A low rumbling that I made out to be a chuckle could be heard in front of us, "My my.... That's not the kind of mindset one should have if they wished to survive here, little one."
I jolted back up at the sound of the familiar voice, "Y-You...! It's... Enmity!"
The rumbling sound came again, "Yes indeed. In the flesh."
It chuckled more loudly at the last comment. I shuddered, knowing well that it wasn't made out of actual flesh. I could only guess what the underlying meaning of its words were.
Maybe some kind of sick joke.... I thought, dismissing it.
Zalgo spoke up, "Enmity, you've got a lot of nerve bringing her back to me in the state that you did. You know very well you could've done so in a less extreme manner."
Another chuckle, "Oh Zalgo, you know it isn't beneath me to try and claim new prey when given the opportunity. Besides..."
Enmity turned its head to look me in the eye, "Some things are unavoidable when it comes to dealings with my kind."
I shuddered, remembering Zalgo's words about after affects from just simply being around Enmity.
"Just... try to restrain yourself. I understand the conditions when it comes to working with you, but it's not impossible to hold back," Zalgo sounded a bit exasperated, as if he knew trying to reason with Enmity was pointless.
Enmity's ever-present smile spread into a sly sneer, "No promises."
I heard Zalgo grumble, but he dropped the topic.
I gripped my hands tightly onto Zalgo's shirt. Unease spread through my body as I stared up at Enmity from my place on Zalgo's back. It's black form was bigger than it was when it came to get me from the mansion. I'd say it's around the same height as it was when I gave it its power high.
I swallowed, thinking about what that might mean.
It turned its head back to look at me again. I felt a vaguely familiar wave of fear and unease come over me. It took a burst of willpower to tear my eyes away from its own.
My breathing had become slightly uncontrolled, so I began to work on regulating it again.
Zalgo realized this, and addressed Enmity once more, "Ahem, Enmity, I appreciate you for your help in bringing back my dear y/n, but we need to get going now."
Enmity chuckles, seemingly at my pathetic weakness, "Of course, Lord Zalgo. I hope I get to see you two again soon."
Yeah.... I hope we never see each other again.... I think with a shudder.
Zalgo gives the creature a slight nod before quickly walking away with me on his back.
I could feel the demon's eyes on my back as we left, "Urgh... Zalgo, I don't feel so good...."
"I know, dear, you need a well deserved break. Don't worry, I'll take you somewhere safe." Zalgo said, walking with a clear purpose in mind.
My body was taking a different take from Enmity's exposure, I could feel nausea building up in my stomach. I quickly found myself worried of throwing up.
"Please hurry, Zalgo...." I wearily said.
Zalgo glanced back at me, "Don't worry y/n, just hang in there."
