"Just as the body goes into shock after a physical trauma, so does the human psyche go into shock after the impact of a major loss. " ~ Anne Grant

Watching someone in such a distraught state is the hardest thing a person can do when there is nothing more you can do but sit back and let them be. Austin hasn't said a single word since his break down and I didn't expect him to either. As we crossed the Florida borderline I let out a sigh of relief knowing that I'll be home soon.

Austin pulled over to the rest stop most likely to use the bathroom. "Do you need anything?" He asked getting ready to get out of the car. I shook my head no and watched him close the door and walk away.  All I really needed was to get home.

As I sat there in the car I couldn't help but notice a few guys in a black Mercedes with the windows rolled down staring in the direction of the car. I couldn't help but stare back causing the one in the drivers seat to roll up the window and quickly pull out.

I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off and was silently praying that Austin could hurry up so we could leave. My prayers were heard and out walked Austin taking his time like there wasn't a care in the world.

He got in the car and stared out before starting the car and speaking. "Did you see those guys too?" He looked over at me to see if I heard him. All I did was shake my head yes and he sighed

"We're going to take a quick detour." Did he know these guys? He shouldn't hold information from someone who has every right to know who they were, for all I know we could be in danger.

He sped out of the lot and back onto the highway not even bothering to turn on the signals. I grabbed onto the arm rest when we jerked lanes. "They aren't anywhere near us, they left way before you can out so can you stop driving like a psycho?!"

He acted like he didn't hear me and kept driving at the same speed. "You're going to get pulled over!" Again he didn't bother answering or slowing down making me huff in annoyance. I closed my eyes and hoped that he would slow down so we don't get hurt.

It was when another car bumped into ours when my eyes snapped open in panic. I knew something was going to happen.

If only he had listened.

I looked out my window and gasped when I saw the car from earlier right next to ours. But they left before us, how is that possible?  The car once again bumped into our making me let out a shriek.

"Hold on lily." Austin said before hitting the car with as much force. It wasn't long before the car spun out of control making my head slam forcefully on the window and blackness taking over.
