He got out the car and looked up into the window that belonged to his room. But this was never gonna be his room. His room was back at home. In Florida.
Nick took his backpack out the trunk and headed to the door, which his mum was currently unlocking. Nicks mum, Carola Burgundy, had bright blue eyes and blonde hair in a Karen-cut, and she behaved as such. Carola fit the definition of a Karen perfectly. Slightly racist, as well as homophobic. „As long as they don't touch me", she always says. Same with Nicks dad, Stephan. He loves saying slurs and doesn't understand why he shouldn't say them.
Don't we all love these people?

As Nick stepped inside, he felt a sudden wave of sadness overcome him. He didn't want to be here. But he is. And all that because his stupid parents got a really good job.

Nick wanted to go back out and go home. Or wake up in his bed realizing this was just a really bad dream. But it wasn't.

He slowly walked up the stairs and opened the door to the room that was supposed to be his. There was a Queen-sized bed, a desk with his gaming setup and a pull out sofa right next to one of the big windows. There was also a closet and a shelf with a few books that Nick has actually read, but mostly science books that his parents wanted him to read and school books. Nick also owns a guitar, but he kind of hides it in the closet.

The first day really was pretty boring. Also, it was a Thursday and he was still on summer break.

As the clock striked 6:30pm, his mum called him to the dining room for dinner. He walked in the room and sat down where he'd normally sit, if he was home. Carola carefully placed a dish of Lasagna on the table. Usually Nick's all time favorite food, but it didn't taste as well as it usually would.

It just felt wrong.

After he was done, he excused himself back to his room and cleaned up his plate.

He spent the rest of day being on tiktok and practising a few songs on his guitar, one of the songs being „another one bites the dust" by queen.

At the end of the day, it wasn't all too bad, was it?
