The sound of clanking silverware emits from the room. The job is giving me flashbacks from side jobs I've had. This time I'm filled with dread, as I've been tasked to be a waiter at this event. We're at the manor of the Cunningham family, where rich people are gathering to discuss rich people things. These are exactly the people I feel intimidated by, while doing a job that drains the life out of me. Akina, the plan girl from Africa, is with me in the room. She's put in the kitchen as one of the cooks. I can tell she has home trained technique. It looks like she's actually suited for the job.
"Have the guests arrived yes", she asks me.
I give her a quiet shrug.
"Are you sure we're doing the right thing here", she asks while cutting onion, tat don't leave her crying for some unfair reason.
"Geoff Cunningham apparently unarmed Yeona when she was with them", I say with a soft voice. "He also supposedly possesses Pym particles that he can't have obtained legally."
"But what if she's the bad person and we're stealing from an innocent person", she looks concerned. I admit I've been mulling over the same issue.
"We have to trust Steve's judgment", I tell her.
She remains quiet, busy with finishing a dish that's confusing for everyone in the kitchen. I've never seen banana being mashed into a rice dish, but what do I know."<We're entering the manor now>", I hear in my earpiece. Yeona, the girl who was fighting Markus in New York, is among the rich crowd who's coming over for dinner. She's keeping her eyes open around the house, as I have an USB I need to plug into a computer in the building.
"<Good, in case anything happens I'll be on standby outside>", Steve comes in. I would've loved to do this mission with him. He says he has so stay incognito. He seems like he's itching to be back in action though.
"<Do you see any security camera's>", Sergio asks Yeona. Both of them were with the Cunningham's for a while. This is also their first time here however. Though Sergio is working from an office, ready to hack into their data to open the safe that should contain what we're looking for.
"<Negative, but I'm sure the others members will act as bodyguards, so be careful. I don't see three of them>", Yeona whispers. "<I can't speak once I'm inside, I'll notify Kelvin if I see anything>", is the last thing she says.
My heart is beating rapidly. I hate making enemies, or breaking rules. Yet here I am, in a mansion full of scary people trying to pull this off. Annoyingly, without a clear given reason. Markus is really bothered by this too. I peak through the door that leads to the main hall. A mass of fancy looking people walks in, looking as arrogant as I expect them to be. I spot Yeona too, fitting in surprisingly well.Markus flies up to the roof with Evine on his back. She uses her telekinesis to open a window, which creaks ever so slightly.
"<We're in the attic>", Markus informs.
He retreats his wings and heats up his scaly skin, radiating some light into the otherwise dark room. It seems to be some kind of study. It's filled with old, damp boxes and some older looking furniture. The room is dusty enough to trigger easy sneezes, but the two remain soundless. They sneak around the creaky room, looking for anything close to looking like a safe. Evine looks over at Markus and shakes her head.
"<It's not in the attic>", Markus whispers. As I'm serving dinner I notice Yeona has her fist clenched. I walk over to hand her a plate. She swiftly flicks something against the palm of my hand. I barely manage to hold onto it and keep a straight face. Not that I'm not freaking out already at this room full of people. I leave the dining room and receive some snarky remarks about my poor form.
"I'm surprised you showed up", Geoff Cunningham says to Yeona. "I had the feeling the daughter of a well known astronaut wouldn't want to mingle with the likes of us."
She smirks. "You've never been able to read me well. Some say it's part of my charm."
He takes a sip of his wine. "It's a bummer though", he stops mid sentence to swirl his glass and stare at it. "I valued you and Datamind greatly, do you think we'll see him again?"
Yeona clenches her toes, not showing her nerves around her former allegiance. "He's also not someone people can read well", she says while raising an eyebrow.
"He's hardly people", Cunningham reacts immediately.
Yeona crosses her legs, trying to hold back her annoyance.
"I'm glad your intentions are purely loyal, let's hope I don't find out otherwise", he teases her.
"You'd miss me too much", Yeona mutters after gritting her teeth.
