CloudburstThe rope around my hands chave my skin. The knot is so tight it actually hurts. Black Ice tells Lavalamp he's in charge of me. They tied me up to a toilet at a sketchy, dark lit part of the airport. She was expecting me and caught me by surprise. It's not like I can move very fast right now. "Look, I get why Cunningham is doing this, but why you guys. What's your gain?"
Black Ice takes a deep breath. "How's Blake?"
"I think he's fine. He'll have a lung disease soon", I say while struggling with my hands.
She smirks. "This is my third family. I burn through them like Blake's sigarette's." She rubs her left hand over her right lower arm. "I'm not from earth, but did grow up here. I only know my second family, back in Antarctica. There we used my skill for hunting, it's where my name came from...", she turns quiet after reminiscing.
"Why'd you leave them", I sincerely ask her.
She crosses her arms. "I'd love to tell you a sob story about the blip, but I don't have one. The tribe preferred my powers for more adult activities, so I left them to die."
"You killed them", I ask shocked.
"No. I let global warming do its wonders. All I can do is pretend it worked, I have no clue. The Cunninghams had better use for my skills. They gave me shelter, they fed me, and I can take their attitudes with a grain of salt. They won't harm me. But them Blake goes to you and I can't tell why. He's lived a similar live, and yet...", she places her index finger on her lips. She's scanning me from head to toe. "Make sure he stays here", she orders Lavalamp.
"You could have a home with us too", I say right before she exits. "Blake is your friend, we could use your skills for good."
She turns to me one last time before leaving: "I don't have friends."Akina stumbles out the building. She's walking slowly, breathing heavily.
"Terra, we need your help", Yeona shouts. Akina looks up toward her. "You need to hold the building steady, it's gonna fall over to other buildings!"
Akina looks at the smoke on the roof. About a quarter of the building is shattered, or just gone. In the distance there's sirens. She needs to focus. She places her hands against the wall. Her feet, steady on the ground. They slowly sink into the pavement. She lets out a powerful cry. The skyscraper sinks a little into the ground too. Ground shoots up around the side of the building, offering the building some stability. On each of the corners grows a thick green vines that starts climbing to the top.
"You shaped the ground Terra, you're amazing", Yeona cheers. "Hold on until I got everyone out", she dashes back inside.
Akina closes her eyes and focuses full on keeping the building balanced. She cracks a smile for a small second. "Terrashaper", she lets out content."I'm glad you put me on a toilet", I talk to Lavalamp. He raises an eyebrow. "The Avengers are ever inspiring, and I made sure to eat one of my favorite dishes before heading out here."
He rolls his eyes uninterested. I take a deep breath. Focus. Aaaaand. I let out a tiny fart.
"Stop fucking around", Lavalamp shouts. Too late. I let out the biggest fart humanity has ever experienced. Guinness book of world records hit me up. The smell of chili floats into the entire wing. The blast of air crashed me against the ceiling. Lavalamp, unscathed as always, dusts off his pants and stands back up. I land back on the ground, ready for a fight. Breathing through my mouth of course.
"It's finally time to show off my true superpower", he steadies himself. His face looks kinda like mine before that explosion I just let out. My behind is quite sore. As sore as Lava seems to feel, whatever he is doing seems to be hurting. His face turns head. Is he going to the same thing as I did? His entire body turns red. No, it's turning pink. Beofre I know it and to my shock, Lavalamp explodes into goo. I expect something to happen, so I brace myself. But nothing. I'm in an airport restroom, with the stench of a sewer and a pool of pink goo. The door opens. I look over as a man walks in. He sniffs a few times. He looks at the good, then looks me in the eye. We have an awkward staredown. He slowly backs out of the room. Guess I made a fan today.Skewer listens as the elevator crashes. He turns around in shock. "Where did these dead birds come from", he asks out loud.
"Their minds are to primitive to withstand manipulation", Blake walks up to him. Behind him is Crow, on the ground, crying and picking up his feathered friends. "But your mind isn't as feeble, so why are you letting it be used by Geoff?"
"D-don't use your tricks on me Oracle. I saw what you did in Germany at your base", Skewer steps back, stretching his arms out to shield himself.
"I'm not using my powers", Blake lowers his sunglasses. "My eyes shift to the color correlating with the color of the emotion."
"They're white now", Skewer hesitates to lower his arms.
"I understand that you're frustrated at the world for not appreciating you. But you're not the only one who feels that way sometimes. Those people in the elevator, in this city, or other places we've been, feel that way too. But they're not the ones harming and killing people for it."
Skewer glances over at the cables. Crow looks up to listen.
"We have to make the best of our lives, despite the arrogance, despite the inferiority, the insecurity, despite the things you might feel sometimes, however deep you feel it. Because right now you are hurting people that you've never even met. People that could very well have bettered your lives. But they can't do that if they're not alive, can they."
"But Warlock bettered our life", Skewer says softly.
"We don't even like that guy. He's a narcissistic asshole whose only ever intent was to satisfy his needs. Both of you have much more to offer life, please don't offer it up for him."
The guys look at each other. An unknown person can be heard walking away. Blake runs over to check, but in his gut already knows who it is.
