the last few weeks you couldn't help but noticed katsuki's condition getting worse and worse by the day, and you started worrying more despite him constantly telling you he was fine. you stayed on top of him as if you were his mother—making sure he took all the medicines the doctor prescribed, only healthy foods, and ensuring that he stayed in bed and got plenty of rest.
and even though you were only taking care of him and trying to nurse him back to help, he still found room to complain and bitch despite his illness. you lost count of how many times you've had to wrestle him and force katsuki's mouth open to give him the medicine or how you threatened to buy a lock and keep him inside of the room because he always tried to escape when you left.
you were happy that even though he was infected, he never let that take the insufferable kick out of him.
you had just got done giving him the chicken noodle soup you made from scratch (he finally took it after you convinced him multiple times that you didn't poison it) and you were spread out on the couch, laying on your stomach as you watched people make different kinds of soup to help with colds.
in the middle of your video, your phone started ringing, making you narrow your eyes as you stared at the contact.
katsuki💥
you looked down the hall for a second at the bedroom door before answering, hoping that everything was okay. "hello?"
"i'm bored" he said, his voice was extremely hoarse, sounded like he was almost forcing himself to talk. "drink some water, your voice doesn't sound good" you could feel him rolling his eyes as the other end went quiet for a second before the sound of gulping flooded your ears. "i'm bored" he repeated, it still sounded like his throat was dry but at least you knew he was hydrated.
"watch a movie katsuki, i'm busy" you said and you heard him let out a small groan. "i can't reach the remote"
"what do you mean you can't reach it, i put it on the end of the bed" the line went quiet for a little bit before he sighed. "it hurts when i try to reach it" you would be lying if you said his words didn't tug on your heart strings a little. you exhaled deeply and turned over, staring up at lights on the ceiling. "why don't you like talking about your feelings katsuki"
"nevermind, i'll find something else to do" you grinned at his stubbornness before laughing lightly. "just tell me and then i'll leave you alone" you tried to bargain.
"no, i want you to hand me the remote if i tell you" he was able to get out before a violent cough ripped through his throat before you heard him spitting out some mucus, making you grimace at the phone in disgust. "could you not do that in my ear?"
"don't tell me what to do" he hacked up some more mucus and you gagged. "that sounds so nasty" you mumbled to yourself. "i'll give you the remote you big baby, now tell me" the line went quiet again, but you weren't in a rush to hear his answer.
"i dunno, it's hard to talk when it's nobody there to listen" you frowned at his words. "what are you talking about? i'm always there" at least you thought that you were. "no...you're always focused on your career now" he scoffed, bitterness lacing his tone with every word he spoke.
"you cannot be blaming careers right now when yours literally puts your life in danger every day, do you know how many times i've stayed up late worrying whether you were coming home or not? and then when you do come back you never talk to me about it"
"so this is my fault again?" you huffed "no it isn't, but you can't just assume i don't care"
"like how you assumed i was out with a girl that one time—i wasn't by the way" he explained and you went quiet at his words, knowing that he was right. it was quiet for a few minutes, neither one of you knowing what to say to each other.
"are we still broken up?" his question surprised you. you tugged your bottom lip in between your teeth as you thought to yourself. "honestly" you took a deep breath. "i don't even know katsuki" the line went quiet again. "okay, goodnight" you opened your mouth to speak but he had already hung up, making you kiss your teeth as you looked over at the bedroom door again.
"asshole" you mumbled under your breath before going back to doing what you were doing before.
