I was in my office doing some work when I heard Lyla howl. Immediately I knew something was wrong. I dashed out the door, down the hallway, and onto the back porch.

There she was, my brave little girl, standing face to face with a rogue. He was considerably bigger than her, but she didn't let that stop her. Her fur started to change color. It began to become silver. She growled at the rogue, scarring it off.

I ran to her side just as she turned back to face me. She whimpered and then passed out. She shifted back into her human form. She was totally naked, lying on the ground.

I quickly took off my shirt and slid it over her to cover her up. I scooped her up in my arms and raced her to the hospital wing.

When I arrived, my mother was waiting there. She quickly assessed Lyla, but couldn't come up with any real problem. We decided to let her rest.

Seeing Jasmine's fur change to silver could only mean one thing. Lyla was The Omega. She was destined to be the greatest warrior our pack had ever seen.

Soon, Lyla awoke. She seemed a little dazed but otherwise fine.

"Xavier, did you see that?" she asked me. "Jasmine's fur, it changed to silver. What does that mean?"

I remembered what my father had told me about the prophecy.

The Omega will be our pack's greatest strength, but she will also be in grave danger," my father warned. "The Omega will face a conflict that could destroy all werewolf kind. She will either save us all, or die trying."

I couldn't tell Lyla that. It would only overwhelm her. I had just finally found my mate. I couldn't lose her to a prophecy. Knowing my sweet, caring, kind-hearted Lyla, she would do anything to save her pack. She would put herself in harm's way. I couldn't let her do that.

"I don't know Lyla," was all I said.

She looked me in the eye. She could tell I was lying.

"Tell me the truth Xavier. I can take it. What does it mean?" she asked again.

"I can't tell you Lyla. I'm sorry," I responded. I hated keeping this a secret from her, but I was trying to protect her.

"I thought we were supposed to be honest with each other," Lyla said as she got up from the hospital bed and stormed upstairs to her room.
