Classes went by as normally as they could considering someone had been killed. The teachers tried their best to keep the students attention but people wouldn't stop talking about it. People bombarded me with questions about it but I brushed them off. The news gave the necessary information and I didn't care to relive the moment. The cops had come in to question people. It was my turn and I went to the office, sitting down. One of the cops looked sympathetic while the other looked more cold.
"I know you probably have no involvement but we still have to question you Ms. L/N." The more sympathetic one spoke. "I understand." I spoke quietly. "So why did you kill her?" The other officer spoke. I was caught off guard. "What?" "You heard me." "How could I have done it? I was attacked for crying out loud!" I couldn't help but become defensive. Going through something traumatizing and then getting accused of the crime wasn't exactly something easy to come to terms with. "Exactly. So it would have been convenient for you to have messed your house up after killing her. Say you were attacked. Then nobody would suspect you." I couldn't help but furrow my eyebrows. The nicer of the two looked over at the accusor. "There was only about a ten minute period between Casey being killed and Y/N being attacked. Not to mention there were signs of forced entry at her house and according to Dewey she couldn't have looked more shaken up." The colder cop didn't seem to buy it but crossed his arms.
"Look you've been through enough Y/N. Just go back to class." He shot me another sympathetic smile and I headed back to my class. I couldn't help but feel angry that he would accuse me of it. He had next to no basis for the accusation.
I decided to stop at the restroom on the way back to calm down a bit. The empty halls felt eerie and I subconsciously played with my shirt as I walked. Suddenly a door, the janitors, swung open and revealed that wretched mask and robe. I screamed and hauled ass away to the bathroom, shoving it open and running to hide in a stall. Suddenly a stall was flung open to reveal the same outfit and another scream ripped through my throat. Suddenly the person pulled off the mask and bursted into laughter. I didn't recognize the boy as he laughed. Tears welled in my eyes as I walked quickly from the bathroom. I just headed straight for my classroom, not wanting to risk another incident.
Finally the bell rang signaling lunch and I gathered my stuff. I put my books away and got my lunchbox, heading towards our usual spot. I sat down and noticed I was the first to arrive. My class had been quite close to my locker so it wasn't surprising. I couldn't tell if I was hungry as I stared at my lunchbox. I heard shuffling and saw someone sit down in my peripheral. It was Billy. I could feel myself start to feel a bit more awkward. He was hard to figure out. It was easy to get a read on everyone else's personality but not his. Not to mention he didn't talk often which didn't help. Obviously he was something special or Sidney wouldn't be dating him.
"How are you feeling?" He suddenly spoke up, causing me to flinch. "Oh um...alright I guess." "Still shaken up from last night?" I contemplated telling him about the whole office confrontation and the guys jumping out at me. Something made me want to confide in him despite barely knowing him but I decided to only mention the office issue. "Kind of. I just got called into the office and one of the cops accused me of being the killer. Said I killed her and then made a mess so I wouldn't be suspected." I explained, popping a chip into my mouth. Anger flashed in his eyes. It was a bit strange. He barely knew me so why would it make him that angry? "Well that's bullshit. Doesn't even make any fucking sense." He kept his voice low but the anger was obvious.
Before he could say anything else Sidney sat down along with Tatum and not long later Stu came over. I decided not to mention the incident to them. I didn't want them getting angry about it. Little did I know there had been a witness to the guys jumping out and the principal wasn't about to stand for that happening. The whole thing was still so fresh after all.
Lunch was kept to talking about anything other than the murders which I didn't mind. I wanted to remain feeling as normal as I could given the situation. I finished up the day without much thought. While I was at my locker putting my textbooks away Billy came up, leaning against the lockers beside mine. "Can I help you?" I asked, a slightly playful tone to my words. He smirked slightly and I felt my cheeks tint a light pink. He was quite the charmer. "Well Sidney has a club to attend and Tatum is going with Stu so Sidney insisted I walk you home." He explained casually. "You don't have to. I don't live that far." I closed my locker and looked at him.
He shook his head. "I don't mind. Don't want your pretty face getting hurt." My heart leapt slightly. Was he flirting with me? Or was it more meant in a playful and platonic way? Before I got the time to really think about it we started heading to my house. The walk was less awkward than I thought it would be and it didn't take long for me to arrive. "Thanks for walking me home." I smiled. He grinned slightly and nodded. "No need to thank me. See you soon." He winked before walking off. I walked into my house, closing the door and leaning against it. I can't be catching feelings for my friends boyfriend.
