"good morning my beautiful goddaughter" Susannah knocked on Maria's door gently and came into her room
"it's too early" Maria groaned and pulled her quilt over her head
"too early to be a debutante?" Susannah laughed
"yes! way too early, i think i'll just time travel back to when i was 13 and didn't have to do this" Maria huffed
"i've not pushed you into this have i? your mom did say she didn't think this was your thing" Susannah worried
"this is my thing Susannah" Maria sighed and pulled the quilt down to look up at her godmother "i love pretty dresses, dancing, my friends and pissing people off, the deb ball was literally made for me...as long as i break the dumb rules" she sat up in her bed "i just wish i didn't have to be up so early" the blonde tutted and looked out the window at the bright blue skies
"it's 11am" Susannah reminded with a laugh
"exactly" Maria shrugged
"I'm so proud of you Mari" Susannah kissed the girl's head "Honestly this past year has been tough for us all but most of all you. the bond you and your mom had was unlike any other i've ever witnessed and you're...you've just been so strong with it all. I love you so so much" she started to tear up
"Thank you Susannah, I love you too, always" Maria scrunched her face up at all the affection and pulled her into a hug to stop them both from crying
"Ok now get ready and actually eat breakfast today! I can't have you fainting" Susannah said I'm a sort of soft stern way, pulling herself back together
"Ugh it's fine, Jeremiah would catch me" Maria teased and Susannah just laughed as she left. Maria got ready and chucked her hair into a clip to keep it out of her way before heading down into the kitchen

"Morning" she sang
"Morning" Jeremiah turned to face her
"Woah woah woah! Aren't you meant to be like staying away from me! Like isn't it bad luck for you to see me before tonight!" She worried
"That's weddings Mari" Conrad laughed
"Not there yet" Jeremiah shook his head with a smile
"Oh...ok then cool" Maria skipped over and kissed his cheek
"Hi guys" Belly appeared down the stairs. Maria barely gave a smile as she slipped onto a stool
"I uh I got some of those good muffins you know for the big day" Conrad opened the box, clearly eager to impress Belly. She looked down at them as though fighting a battle in her head
"I am good actually thanks though" Belly nodded awkwardly
"Ok I'm here, we're sorting this out!" Luis announced his presence "I'm going to Yale to become a lawyer so this is practice for family court. Conrad you owe Belly an apology for leading her on and sending a message that resulted in the theft of her clothes, Mari, you owe Conrad an apology for beating him up" he leaned on the breakfast bar
