As the title says, I saw the touring company of Anastasia!
So I saw the show Wednesday night.
It was amazing, beautiful, awesome, spectacular...honestly there aren't enough words to describe how wonderful the show truly was! It was everything I could have hoped for and more after countless hours and days listening to the soundtrack on repeat on listening to the songs come on at random in one of my musical theatre playlists.
I also couldn't help but cry during three specific moments in the show. First, during the prologue where the Dowager Empress and Little Anastasia sang Once Upon A December and the following scene called The Last Dance Of The Romanovs because I was so excited to see live theatre again. Secondly, I cried during a song near the end of Act 1 called Stay, I Pray You. It mainly had to do with the fact that everyone during that song, Anya, Dmitry, Vlad, and the ensemble singing the song, were leaving Russia and never going back due to the strain and tension from the Russian Revolution. Plus, the song is very bittersweet, and it didn't help that it was in a minor key either. The third time I cried was during the curtain call after Act 2 because the show was so wonderful and beautiful, and I was left awestruck.
I unfortunately wasn't able to see Kyla Stone (the principal actress for Anya) as Anya, but I saw an understudy/swing, Victoria Madden, go on as Anya, who was brilliant, talented, and charming and blew me away in the role (especially when she sang In My Dreams).
Sam McLellan (the principal actor for Dmitry) was on Wednesday night and oh my gosh! He was AMAZING as Dmitry! I can't decide if it was the way he delivered his lines or if it was his AWESOME voice (especially when he sang My Petersburg, In A Crowd Of Thousands, and Everything To Win). It didn't help it that he was very cute either (my friend who I saw the show with wouldn't stop going on about how cute he was after the show).
The guys who were Gleb and Vlad were amazing too. And the guy who was Gleb did an awesome job (especially when he sang The Neva Flows).
The woman who was Countess Lily was hilarious and charming. I really loved how she delivered her lines and her voice (especially when she sang Land Of Yesterday).
It was really tough to pick my favorite song from the show, but I have four favorites from both acts.
My four favorite songs from Act 1 (in no particular order):
Learn To Do It
My Petersburg
Once Upon A December
We'll Go From There
My four favorite songs from Act 2 (in no particular order):
Paris Holds The Key (To Your Heart)
Land Of Yesterday
In A Crowd Of Thousands
Quartet At The Ballet
I also splurged on some merchandise too.
