Song: Chase Atlantic- Swim
I'm staring up at the black building before me in awe.I've never really seen a building so dark and ominous but so beautiful at the same time, and all I can think about is 'what have I gotten myself into?'
I probably look as shocked as I seem, because Mr Butler is chuckling at me quietly as he shuts the car door and walks up to me. I turn to look at him, my eyebrows raised and eyes widened in incredulity.
I'm waving my hands towards the building and my mind is trying to form words in my head that seem even remotely formal, but I'm just spluttering like the idiot I am.
Mr butler just gestures for me to walk inside, and when I start to move, at a very slow pace may I add, he probes me onwards quicker with a hand on my shoulder.
I'm still clutching Zeus like he's my life line, and I guess he is. He's the only thing that tethers me to my old house, and my happiest memory. He's just quiet as I hold him, occasionally making whimpering noises to alert me he's hungry.
I make a mental note to go out later for dog food.
We walk through the glass doors of the building, and if the outside is any indicator of what the inside looks like, I'm just as stunned.
The floors are a black marble and the whole foyer stretches out so far that I'm betting three of my whole house could fit in here. There's a reception desk standing off to the right as we enter, but there doesn't seem to be anyone behind there.
I look up and my eyes widen at the silver chandelier that hangs from the middle of the ceiling, big enough to probably create a dent in the floor if it falls. The individual crystals creating a mini cacophony of light beams across the walls.
There is an elevator, also black, and Mr Butler guides me towards it as I continue to take in my surroundings, gulping in every detail, the picture of luxury planted in my mind as we walk.
He presses the button and we wait in silence, me absently stroking Zeus' head and cuddling him closer to me.
When the doors finally open, we step inside and already, this elevator is bigger than any I've ever been in. There's space to fit a minimum of twenty people in here, and there is a mirror on the back wall and hand railings wide enough for people to sit on.
On one side of the elevator doors, which are now shutting, there is an impossibly large amount of buttons lined down the middle in two's, ranging from one to sixty six.
Sixty six? God that's a long way up.
Mr Butler presses a button on the left side of the elevator doors, and then touches his thumb to what seems like a touchpad directly on top of the button.
The button reads 67 as it illuminates in a green light, and I'm guessing this is for the top floor.
Why is it exclusively separated from the rest?
I decide to fill the silence.
"So, Mr Butler, what's your name?" He seems surprised at my question, and a small smile takes over his face as he looks at me, clearly amused.
"Leonardo." He seems a bit shy as he says his name, and I nearly jump up in excitement.
"Can I call you Lenny? I've always wanted to give someone a nickname, and Leo seems too common." He looks at me like he's unsure, then nods slightly and I smile in return. It seems I've made a friend.
Silence settles back around us as we continue our journey to the top. It's not a tense silence, like the ones with my father, and this seems comfortable, like I don't need to watch my back.
