(Author's note: The story might seem a bit vague at first but I'm trying a different way of writing. It'll be slower but good i hope. Im relatively new to writing seriously besides highschool papers, so criticize me all you want)

A dim yellow light flickers and hums in the distance as you walk down a dark alley after midnight. There's always something around the corner in this city, and it's never good, so you're careful to watch yourself.

Though, inevitably, you end up face to face with some Joe. You try not to think the worst of others, not this time. He looks sorta genuine, some people can't help the way they look.

"Can I help you, sir?" You spoke out firmly, not a waver in your remark. "Oh, sure you can, sweetheart."

He cackled and it gave you a sick feeling followed by a wave of goosebumps. "What's the matter... Sir?"

"I lost my late wife's locket! I think it might've dropped somewhere... Maybe back over that way" He reached in his pocket slyly and pointed his waving hand out into the larger street.

You noticed his sleight of hand and didn't turn away. His face turned to anger from desperation, and he launched towards you. He'd seen you didn't bite the bait, it angered him.

With the cold blade of the knife pressed against your neck threateningly, you could only hope you'd be saved. You could only hope you were in The Batman's sight.

He removed one of his hands from the blade and dropped it onto your breast, only touching it for a second before dragging his fingers downwards.

You struggled back onto the wall trying to escape his grasp but only angered him further.

"LET ME GO, GODDAMNIT!! GET OFF ME YOU CREEP!" He slapped you hard, "SHUT UP BITCH!" only to carry on touching around your hips with his gross hands.

Before he could sneak his fingers into your leggings, he was struck down. He was punched repeatedly, beat to a black and blue mess.

Still breathing, he hissed out through a near toothless mouth, "Who the hell do you think you are!?"

The tall man standing over him kneeled next to him and uttered in a husky voice, "I am Vengeance." He stomped his foot down on the guy's testicles with his heavy, dirty boots.

You winced a little, but he fucking deserved it. "Um, hey, uh... Mr...?" The large figure standing over your assaulter came a bit closer and placed his hand over your shoulder.

"You okay? Any cuts, broken bones, bruises- He didn't... Touch you there, right?" You smiled at his concern.

"No, I'm completely fine, thanks to you. He slapped me, and it still stings but I'll get over it. I owe you one, seriously. Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

His eyes turned from compassion to rage and he pulled the unconscious man up against the wall.

He slapped the shit outta the guy, it almost scared you.

But he looked oddly familiar, his cold stare, soft pink lips, the cutting edge of his jaw. It was undeniable. You know the man who lie under the mask of the Caped Crusader.

"Hey, i think he's had enough. REALLY, you can stop! He's gonna die, you'll-" He dropped the man and the sound of his body on the cement was unremarkable.

"I don't kill."

"I've heard. You've got a big fanbase, huh? You're all I hear kiddos talk about. Kind of sad they know who you are, they shouldn't be watching videos like that. But, hey, do I know you? I mean, you look familiar."

He looked confused, his eyebrows were visible now from how hard he furrowed them.

"You don't know me."

"Oh, I'm sorry. You look a lot like- someone I know. Haven't seen him in a long time. He just disappeared on me, and I moved after a year. I gave up on looking for him but I've missed it here recently. I came back, and he's here, but I don't think he knows I'm here."

You were surprised he hadn't left yet, what's he doing listening to some girl on the street when he could be saving the night?

"Well, maybe you should reach out to him."

"Oh no, I can't do that. I don't think you know how long it's been. We were friends from when he was six to fifteen. I'm twenty-five now, he should be twenty-six"

"Who knows, he might like to see you again. Be careful walking out here, scream for me if you get into trouble." With that he grappled onto a rooftop and ran off into the dark.

"He's nicer than I thought"
