previously on rescuing robin...
"miss wheeler?" a doctor called from down the hall, a smile on his face. "a word?" his eyes sparkled.

steve and i exchanged a glance before heading back into robins room smiling to ourselves.

chapter 009:
nancy wheeler point of view.
steve and i rushed to the room with hope in our heart to talk to the doctor.

robin was awake and sat upright in bed smiling at us as we walked through the door. she looked okay oddly enough, very pale and weak but she looked alive.

"miss wheeler" the doctor shook my hand "mr..?"

"harrington, steve harrington" steve replied

"mr harrington" the doctor shook steve's hand "are you a friend of miss buckley's?"

"yes, best friend and co worker" he affirmed.

"well take a seat both of you" he said as we took seats next to robins bed

"is it good news?" i asked holding robins hand and stroking circles on it.

"yes, i believe you will find it good" he said smiling

i squeezed robins hand in encouragement

"robin will eventually make a full recovery. she's clearly been progressing fast in hospital, so much in fact that i've spoken to a consultant and we believe that she can go home today!"

i gasped
this couldn't be real
i looked at robin and she was smiling back at me. steve smiled too and squeezed my knee to let me know he was exited.

"robin will be issued with a wheelchair that she will have to use until her broken bones have healed. what kind of establishment do you live in may i ask?"

"an 2 floor apartment" i replied

"does it have a lift option available?" he asked

i nodded

"brilliant, if you could ensure that robins bed is moved downstairs so she doesn't have to struggle with stairs and you should be all set"

"of course, i'll look after her really well" i said kissing robins cheek and i felt a little blush on her cheek.

"i'll come over and help them out too, nancys been a trouper she really has. i'll let our boss know shes going to need some time off aswell" steve chimed.

"perfect! i'll issue you guys with a wheelchair, robins medication and her discharge papers!" he smiled and walked off.

"i'm coming home?" robin asked exitedly

i kissed her

"yes you are baby, back where you belong!" i giggled

"are those for me?" robins asked steve, who was holding the slightly crushed flowers still in his hand

"yea, yes they are" he said laughing and passing them to her "slightly crumpled now but still good"

"thank you steve" she giggled "i really appreciate everything guys" she teared up "i love you both"

i hugged her and we had a moment just three best friends.

it was bliss.

later on...

"here you are" steve dropped us off at the entrance to our apartment block "i'm coming in with you this time to help, nancy don't you dare refuse!"

i laughed at him
"oh so chivalrous sir steven of hair, helping two damsels in distress! woe be me" i flung my hand against my head dramatically

robin laughed at steve's unimpressed face.

i wheeled robin into the entrance as steve carried the bags.

i pressed the lift button (elevator button in america and canada) but nothing happened.
i pressed it repeatedly getting rather frustrated with it.

a maintenance guy walked through the hall at that exact moment.

"hey! hey! the lift button is broken could you help please?" i called

"the whole lift is broken, has been for days" he said and moped off.

"you've got to be having a laugh" i said to steve. "we live on the 3rd floor. that's 6 flights up!" i sighed.

"i've got it, don't even worry" steve said "ready robin?" she nodded

steve picked her up carefully and began walking her up the stairs.

"just tell me if anything hurts okay?" he said

"everything already hurts, i wouldn't worry" she said meekly

i carried the folded chair and the bags behind steve as we finally got to our door.

steve sat robin back down in the wheelchair and o pushed her through the door.

"steve, you go bring the double blow up mattress from the store cupboard and i'll go and get robins pyjamas and spare duvet" i said.

after assembling the bed in the downstairs living room and helping robin into her pyjamas, steve said goodbye and left us to sleep.

"now are you sure you don't need anything?" i asked giving her a kiss.

"you" she replied softly

"what do you mean?" i asked

"i don't want you to leave me, i'm scared nancy" she sniffed

i bent down to her side.

"remember my promise? you'll never be alone?" i stroked her soft hair

she nodded

"i meant it" i said getting into bed next to her frail body.

she cried silently only my side all night and i tried my best to calm her, but i really couldn't comprehend what she had been through.

"why didn't you cry when steve was here?" i whispered.

"i didn't want him to worry, i don't want you to worry but i love you and i thought you wouldn't mind"

i kissed her shaky head

"i would never mind, ever" i whispered.

we lay there the whole night, tired yet unable to sleep.

life's funny like that. it throws you a curveball but when you have someone you love this much, you always pull through.
