after 5 hours of dnd and haggling one another the whole basement finally fell silent. it was just like when the were all little. even karen had to come down to make sure the kids didn't sleep in their chairs. she set up the fort that el once used to sleep in and tucked all the boys in carefully.

. . .

to change perspectives jonathan and nancy had been talking nonstop about college, leaving argyle to binge baseball reruns with ted.

"so, you really don't mind?" jonathan asked surprised nancy wasn't more mad over the situation.

"no! of course not, jonathan i know you've wanted to go to nyu since you were little." nancy started admiring his dreams. "i'm so proud of you and i don't know what argyle has gotten you into, but i think he's given you good insight."

"he has helped me make a lot of decisions." jonathan admitted. "i'm just glad you're okay with it."

"of course i'm okay" nancy smiled, before holding jonathan's face in her hands beginning to kiss his cheeks then his lips. jonathan wrapped his arms around nancy holding her in a sort of hug while running his hands through her curly hair. "don't think i can't smell the weed on you though."

"what?" jonathan snapped back pulling up the sleeve of his flannel to smell it. "oh."

"i guess that's from argyle too." nancy assumed more humorous than angry.

"...yeah i've been sort of a mess." jonathan rubbed his tired eyes. "i didn't realize how bad i was until will helped me pull myself together."

"well that's what brothers are for." nancy smiled tracing circles on jonathan's back.

"yeah, yeah i guess so."

. . .

"so what's your favorite league dude?" argyle leaned over the la-Z-boy recliner to look at ted... who was fast asleep with drool spilling out of the corner of his mouth. "...alright then." argyle lied back onto the chair and resumed watching the bright tv.

"guys breakfast!!" karen shouted from upstairs hoping her voice carried all the way to the basement.

mike rustled in his sleeping bag hoping that awful noise wasn't his mom trying to wake him.

"hello sleepy heads it's breakfast!" karen opened the door to the basement and shouted the message again, this time waking everyone.

"hold on mom!" mike groaned rolling over on his side to smash his face against his pillow.

"ugh it's too early man" dustin started, looking at his watch. "it's only 9:00! mike your mom is insane."

"tell me about it."

"you guys i had the weirdest dream last night." lucas emerged from his blankets and sat up to explain. "you guys were all... cinnamon rolls."

"cinnamon rolls?" will tilted his head "lucas i think you were hungry while dreaming."

"yeah, probably." lucas admitted, he stood up from his blankets and clapped his hands in front of the others. "cmon guys i'm hungry, get up!"

the whole group groaned in unison at the loud noise. "but sleep" dustin gestured to his pillow "sleep is great, sleep is better than breakfast might i add."

"i agree with that" mike added throwing his hand in the air.

"i just want you guys to shut up." will laughed pulling his pillow over his head.

the whole group fell silent again as the door knob to the basement began to rattle open again. "cmon guys i know your tired, but we have guests!" karen informed before turning on the very dim light to the basement. "it would be rude to let them wait." karen added turning back to go upstairs.
