"Sunlight dances off the leaves
Birds of red color the trees
Flowers filled with buzzin' bees
In places we won't walk"
————————————————The night had been full of meeting vampires and to say I was exhausted was an understatement. My guys would pull me around the room at every minute to introduce me to new people.
Everyone I met seemed to tell me some sort of fact about themselves, which would be impossible for me to remember. Nobody has been rude or disrespectful yet, though I think that has something to do with Jaxon's threats.
Nonetheless, I kept the warm smile and greeted everyone kindly. If I continue treating them with respect, they'll continue returning it. Hopefully.
Now, I lean forward on my elbows on the kitchen counter. I had made an excuse to get away for a few minutes to have my first drink of the night.
"Hey, where have you been, angel? Come with me, I want you to meet Agnes. She's the woman who helped us find you." Elijah says, gently pulling me away from the glass of champagne which I was using as means to get through the night.
Usually whenever they would pull me to greet someone, I would mentally groan. This time however, I was actually interested.
I let Elijah drag me along gently to where Agnes is, sending a few smiles to people who I remember speaking to earlier.
Elijah had told me a bit about her, how she helped them find me, what she's told them about the goddess inside me, and the fact that she's a witch. I don't know what she actually looks like though, but I'm excited to meet her.
He begins to lead me outside, and though I'm a little confused, I don't question him. We walk through the pretty garden, which I like spending free time in, and I see a figure in the corner of it.
When we get to it, I see a older woman wearing dark clothes. For the most part, she looks normal, except for the fact that she's extremely short. Like shorter than me, and that's saying something.
When she looks at me her eyes rise to the top of my head where the crown sits. She immediately bows keeping her eyes away from mine.
"It's such an honor to meet you, my queen." She says.
"That's not necessary. And call me Noa." I say for about the hundredth time tonight.
She stops bowing and looks at me, nodding. I begin to talk again, "May I ask why you're out here, and not inside with the rest of the party."
"Well, this is a vampire celebration, and while there's no issues between vamps and witches, they wouldn't take me being here too lightly." She explains.
I nod before asking what I truly want to know. "Hey, Elijah's told me about everything you've done to help them with my situation. And it might be a long shot but is there any chance you know more about me, or Cadia?"
"Oh dear, I know plenty about both of you, I just need to know what specifically you're asking me." She says back in her charming voice.
"Well, I've been having... episodes. I've accidentally mindlinked them without knowing, and I can never do it twice in a row. And recently, I did something to Jaxon that I wasn't proud of. But it was like I couldn't control my own body and I was watching from above."
"Oh, that's pretty normal. Cadia's powers are growing stronger with each day that passes. The day in which someone will attempt to kill you, you'll have almost all of her powers at your disposal. But.." She trails off, her eyebrows scrunching up in worry.
"What?" Elijah pipes in now, seeing the look on her face.
"I'm afraid there's some bad news. If Cadia's already able to take control of her body, then that means the day is near. That means it's coming... very soon. If you prepare accordingly you might have a chance of beating it."
"How do we beat it? What happens if we do?" Elijah asks frantically.
"To beat it, you must find whoever the supposed murderer is and kill them before they kill her. If they die before she does, she'll be fine. She'll live with complete control of all of Cadia's powers, and she'll live eternally with her mates."
"If you don't succeed, well, there's no easy way to say this-"
"I die." I finish for her. She nods before looking at the ground.
We stand in silence and I process the information that was just fed to me. I knew I was going to die soon, I woke up this morning knowing I was going to die. I lift my head up to look back into her soft eyes and speak, "It was lovely meeting you, I must go now."
I turn and walk right back inside the house going back into the kitchen where Elijah had collected me from. I leaned my elbows on the counter again, and think for a few moments.
I'm going to die. I can't believe it. My life just started. I was finally happy. And now it's ending. There's so many things I wanted to do. Wanted to do with Kieran. And Elijah. And Jaxon. And now I'm a dead woman walking.
Tears begin to well up in my eyes as I chug down a glass of champagne.
"Woah, slow down there." I hear a voice enter the kitchen.
I turn to look at who it is. Oliver. With an ugly smile on his face. I send a polite smile over to him. I just learned I'm going to die, I don't want to talk to him.
He steps up and stands right next to me, leaning on his elbows the same way I am. I see a bead of sweat fall down his bald head. Ew. I scoot away a tiny bit, so it isn't noticeable.
"I didn't know your mates were Jaxon, Kieran, and Elijah. Why didn't you tell me?" He starts.
"Respectfully, Oliver, I don't know you. Why would I tell you? And even if I did know you, I'm not sure I would tell you. I don't have to tell you anything I don't want to. Have a good rest of your evening." I say, not wanting to deal with any bullcrap.
I see his hideous smile drop into an even more hideous scowl. I step away from him and move to the door that goes into the ballroom and away from him when I hear him call out, "You too, Noa, you too."
I'm allowed to be mean right now, I'm going to die.
Jaxon finds me after a few minutes of wandering around and says, "Hey, I want you to meet this family. The wife's pregnant."
I'm exhausted, but I look up at him and see the beautiful, proud smile on his face and find myself nodding at his request. He wants to show me how hard he's worked all these years, the least I can do is plaster a smile on my face and nod. So, I suck it up and let him drag me towards the couple.
Here we go again.
