"Why did Amilia have a motorcycle?" I ask Matt when we are finally alone. "What was she doing?"
"Shit, you're right. I didn't even question it. We just got her a motorcycle and assumed it was part of the mission. Where did she go after she left the van?" Matt drops onto the couch next to me and runs his hands through his hair, looking thoroughly stressed out.
"And where did Alexi Gonzaga disappear to?" I shake my head. "I should have asked Tom to keep an eye on him."
"Maybe we can review the footage tomorrow," Matt suggests. "I bet Tom can find the footage for us and we can see where he went or who he is with. Can we trust Tom?" Matt adds and looks over at me.
"I trust him," I hesitate but I say it anyway, and Matt nods.
"I don't..." Matt lets out a sigh and trails off. "I don't understand why we were chosen for this mission. The smallest team, why us? Why are we this small?" Matt continues to ask the same questions I have.
"At first, I thought it was because of Dr. Donovan, but now I don't know," I say, offering some insight. Matt looks over at me with a raised eyebrow and a slight smirk. I roll my eyes. "You weren't the only one who experienced Heartbreak by Kahil."
Matt laughs at my name. "Heartbreak by Kahil? Sounds like a cologne or something."
"Shut up," I laugh and kick at him. He grabs my foot and smiles, chuckling a little. He holds onto my foot and starts kneading it gently, it feels good. I lay back to relax, putting both legs on his lap.
"So, this heartbreak, you think it could be the reason behind our team?" Matt continues to rub my feet, switching between the two then working his way up my calves.
"It's possible," I say, I want to tell him that it might also be because of my uncle and Dr. Donovan's hatred for him. It might just be everything combined, but why did he pick these people to suffer with me? "Do you trust Myles?"
Matt's fingers continue their work up my calves while he looks up at me.
"Myles is my boy, I trust him. He's gotten me out of many situations," Matt admits and I look at him. "And no I don't mean he's helped me ace some tests before, although he has done that too."
"What about Theran? Cassidy? Jamison?" I list off the rest of the team, leaving off Amilia.
"Honestly, I don't know them that well. Cassidy is a team player, she was on almost every team sport until this year. But aside from that, I don't know much about her either. You?"
"I had a couple of classes with her last year, she's smart. And tough," I say as I watch Matt's hands climb higher on my legs. "Theran is a brilliant nurse or doctor, I can understand why he is our medic. He is the only reason half of our class passed first aid training." As I talk, Matt begins touching me softer, rubbing in wider strokes. His hands reach higher and higher and I'm almost disappointed that I am still clothed. "Matt," I say as a warning.
"Nat," Matt says in return and his hands reach the edge of my pants, he tugs at my waistband and smirks at me. "I could give you a much better massage if you took these off."
"Oh, I'm sure you could, but that doesn't mean that we should," I say in response and gently remove his hand. I sit forward, leaning towards him. "And we definitely should not," I whisper, my lips close to his.
"We definitely should," Matt says in return and he leans in closer while I lean back until I'm flat on my back and he's holding himself over me. I smile up at him and he looks down at me beneath him. "Oh yeah, we definitely should."
"Matt," I say when he lowers his head down to kiss me. He stops short and looks at me. "No," I say and he hesitates, watching me. Then he kisses my nose and pushes himself back and onto his side of the couch. I sit up and look over at him.
