"Do they really expect us to live in this building?" Tom asks me, staring at the dilapidated building in front of us. Other teams are climbing the steps to the front entrance. "Jeez, I really hope the staircases are still intact, or else we will not be able to make it to our third floor living."
I don't have a response and all I can do is stare at the building. Our whole team stands outside looking unamused. Soon we hear muffled gasps of shock and squeals of excitement. Tom and I look at each other then race into the building followed closely by the rest of our team.
"What the hell?" We step over cracked floor boards entering the building. I look around not impressed at all. "This is disgusting."
The front hall is about 6 feet deep and stretches maybe 1,000 feet wide. I look left and right, the whole length of the hall is old and falling apart. In front of us is another door and clouded windows line the wall surrounding it. Jamison reaches for the door and pulls it open.
"Okay, now this is what I had in mind. Welcome home, everybody!" Matt grins and he and Jamison slap each other on the back and walk into a completely remodeled interior hidden behind the misleading front hall and the old abandoned exterior.
"Wow," Amelia appears next to me looking around the grand entrance of our new living situation. "How did Matt not know this existed? Wasn't he friends with a lot of seniors last year? Hm."
I chuckle then drift over to the group of kids gathered around a giant tv attached to the wall.
"Natalie!" Sydney practically shrieks as she throws her arms around me.
"Hey, Syd. So how's your group?"
"My group seems great so far. Everyone is so nice. There are only three girls, including me, so we are all going to bunk together!" Sydney seems excited, she steps back and points to the tv monitor. "Our room assignments are on the monitor. We were all told what floor on these," she waves her paper around, "but no room numbers there. Oh also, I think tomorrow this will have our lab assignments."
"Hey there roomie," Matt interrupts Sydney as he comes over to us. He doesn't touch me again but I can tell he stops himself short of doing so.
"What do you mean 'roomie'?" I ask folding my arms and turning to face him.
"Generally that terms is what one roommate says to the other roommate." Matt pretends to lecture me like I'm stupid. I glare at him.
"Wait, you guys are roommates? I didn't think they let girls and guys room together." Sydney looks at me confused and I shrug, I don't know what's going on either.
"Well, looks like someone made a mistake or did this on purpose." Matt supplies and I groan, Dr. Donovan. Sydney gasps and looks at me with wide eyes.
"You don't think he'd do that..? Do you?" Matt looks back and forth between the two of us. And I shake my head, not because I don't think that, but because I don't want to discuss Dr. Donovan in front of Matt. Sydney catches my meaning. "Right, sorry."
I push past other seniors, ignoring the looks. I scan the tv monitor and find Team 7.
