History of magic was the same as ever: my napping territory. After getting woken up by Malfoy who sat to the left of me we went to charms. To me that class ended as quickly as it began.
"Welcome fifth years!" Shouted the familiar Professor Flitwick.
Everyone got seated. They're was a lot of mix and match as we had this class with the Ravenclaws, which appear to be the only house Slytherins show association with.
"Today we'll start off with the color changing charm. It is just that. A charm that changes the color of an object. All of you have a black cauldron which you are to change to white by the end of the week. You may start by charming a similar color which wouldn't require as much visualizing or willpower. For example, I'd suggest taking it slow and first changing your cauldron from black to brown. And so on until you can get it to white which is the exact opposite of black, proving to be the most difficult and would demonstrate mastery of the charm. Alright you may attempt now!"
Everyone started on their cauldrons. The Ravenclaws especially. Eager as always.
I look to my left and see Nott having trouble with the charm. I watch him murmur the spell. Then, nothing happens and he groans.
"You've got to visualize it," I say to Nott.
"Huh?" He looks at me confused.
"The charm will only work once you visualize what you want it to looks like,"
"Oh Hadrian don't bother with me. Charms is my worst class. I always have trouble with it," he waves me off.
"No c'mon we're getting this done. Close your eyes," Nott closes his eyes and faces his cauldron.
"Okay what color are you attempting to change the cauldron into?"
"Brown,"
"Alright so visualize a brown cauldron,"
"Okay, I got the picture," he responds after a few seconds.
"Now, before casting the charm remember that fact that you WANT it to change colors. The vocalization is only used for easier commanding of your magic. Your magic will listen to you. So give it the order,"
"Coilo!" Nott's cauldron turns brown.
He turns to me grinning ear to ear.
"Hadrian I did it! I actually did it!" He looks around the classroom, "And only the third person to! I'm never one of the first!"
I smile, "You are very smart Nott, it's no surpris,"
"Thanks Hadrian!" He says sincerely.
"Mr. Nott 10 points to Slytherin congratulations! I see major improvement in your skill. And Mr. Peverell 5 points for helping out a classmate." We smile at the earned points.
"Mr. Peverell how come you haven't started?" Professor Flitwick asks me confused.
"Oh I got it down," I stutter out.
"Well, show me what you have so far," he motions for me to cast the charm.
I cast it and the cauldron turns impeccably white.
Professor Flitwick looks stunned as does majority of the class who's attention it now on me.
"My! incredible work Mr. Peverell! 20 points to Slytherin," Professor Flitwick further inspects the cauldron, not a single mistake he finds.
"I can expect great things from you Mr. Peverell in this class!" The Professor smiles gleefully at me, excited that he's got such a talented student in his class.
