Chapter Sixteen
"Angelic""You're starting to make me dizzy, Savannah."
I continued to ignore Luba's third complaint thus far. At this rate, I was making myself dizzy, but I couldn't stop pacing in our makeshift living room. I wasn't sure we could even call it a living room, when all there was a single sofa given to us by Dimitri. I hadn't planned on accepting anything from him, but he warned that he'd be throwing it in the garbage if I didn't take it so... here it was, pressed against our wall.
Luba was sitting cross-legged on it, watching me impatiently. My legs still moved back and forth.
"If you're this nervous, don't go," she said, exasperated. "You don't owe him anything. Except, well, him helping us find this apartment. And getting rid of those guys. And giving us this couch. And—"
I stomped my feet and spun my body towards her, glaring. "I get it."
She smiled in satisfaction before pushing herself off the couch. Once she was standing in front of me, she started fixing the wrinkles on my summer dress I sewed myself.
"You look cute," she commented non-nonchalantly. "You're going to make him more obsessed with you. If that's possible."
"He's not obsessed with me." She snorted but said nothing. I only sighed before pushing her hands off me. "When are you going to work?"
She checked the time on her phone. "I have to leave in a few minutes. I'll be there till midnight." My face contorted with worry, but she only smiled and patted my shoulder. "I'll be fine. You on the other hand—"
"You don't think I'll be fine?" I rushed out, my eyes turning wide. She laughed at my expression before shaking her head.
"You're definitely not fine. You're going on a date with Dimitri."
"It's not a date—"
"It totally is."
"It isn't," I said, my tone hard and final. "I'm still with Rafael. The only reason why I'm going with him is because he helped us with the apartment."
She nodded but didn't look like she believed me. My shoulders caved in from the nerves while Luba started fixing up her dark red dress. Her hands moved to her hair, where she tightened her high ponytail, but her green eyes never pulled away from me.
My eyes flickered to my own dress, and I couldn't help but play with the hem. I never admitted it, but when I went to the fabric shop after reuniting with Dimitri, I found this bright blue floral pattern, and I didn't think twice before buying it.
I never favoured one colour, but when I saw the bright blue flowers on the fabric, I felt like I was staring into Dimitri's eyes. And then my heart started galloping.
Although, I hadn't done something with the fabric until recently. The dress had knotted straps and was tight around my chest before flaring past my waist. It was long, too, ending by the middle of my calves. I found myself twirling every now and again, not used to feeling material swish around me. I haven't made a dress for myself in years, never wanting to waist that fabric on myself.
And again, I wouldn't admit it but... I felt pretty. In the dress. I styled my blonde hair, so it was in a half up, half down hairdo. Luba gave me a simple, silver chain necklace, and I was wearing beige flats. I was also wearing a pinkish eye shadow and lip gloss with mascara. At one point, Luba ushered me to wear heels, just so I could get closer to Dimitri's height. But then I reminded her that I didn't know where we were going, and it would be safer to stick with flats. She reluctantly agreed.
