You stand quietly behind the young prince has the court room buzzes around you.
A crisp breeze blows between the columns, allowing your sweat to run cold.
Admittedly, you've never had so much attention before.
To be true, thought it were all for Thor, you could see the pointing fingers.
The whispers..the eyes that glared into your soul.
You feel your stomach churn even now..
Your only current option is to focus on his highness.
His golden helmet gleaming by torch light.
His cape swaying ever so slightly in the wind.
His posture was straight and poise as you would expect.
You knew the truth though.
He was only acting this way because of his parents right next to him.
They paid him no mind though.
His job was simply to stand there facing the doors until his elder, and quite childish, brother arrived.
His skin was so smooth..so pale.
It matched his icy gaze.
Your concentration put you off guard.
"Hello-"
"GAH-!" You scream, causing everyone who wasn't looking before to turn to you.
You could hear your own voice reverberating among the stone.
It drew your hair to its tips; your blood runs cold.
Even the young prince turns and glances at you.
Your face flushed was pure embarrassment, you turn to yell at your sister...quietly.
"Don't do that!"
"I apologize.."
"No you don't."
"Heh!
No I don't!
You must've been up in that palace again."
"What does it matter?
You should've been here hours ago!"
"For what?
We all knew this was going to drag on, so I figured I would just-"
"Enough..this is a day of celebration.
Let's just enjoy it and NOT kill each other, deal?"
She pauses, both relieved and annoyed by your offer.
"Fine...
But by tomorrow, I deserve an apology!"
"YOU deserve an-" you calm your voice again, trying not to yell.
"Fine."
She nods and stand next to you, as is tradition.
To see you both from afar, one would assume they were seeing double.
You were both the same height with the same visible skin color.
Yet, upon closer inspection, you were both quite different.
For instance, your sister wears a golden white cloak around her.
She has for centuries.
You, however, wear a blue white cloak around you.
Your weapons of choice are both different.
Your hair colors and eye colors are not the same.
Not even your mannerisms are remotely similar!
In fact, they're opposites.
It doesn't take long for another comment to be made.
"Oh~
Now I get why you were so distracted!"
"Pardon?"
She grins and gestures to Loki who, again, cannot see you.
"You like him..!"
"What?
Don't be ridiculous!"
"Your blushing~"
"Yes, because that is an extremely embarrassing thing to assume about someone.
Especially me!"
"Then why are you fixated on him?
..specifically his back side."
"I-It's not like that!
Trust me, I'm just trying to make sure there are no surprises!"
"Uh huh, sure."
"Really!
I mean, he is definitely nicer to me than other gods..he's more interesting...um, better, uh-"
"Have you told him?"
"No-
I mean, even if I did have such feelings, I would never admit them to him.
That is not my place.
My place is to serve and protect the young prince, not-"
"Fall deeply in love with him?"
You glare at her, hoping, no, praying he didn't hear any of that.
Or anyone for that matter!
She's thankfully interrupted by the sound of goes blasting.
The crowd outside rages in excitement as the eldest prince returns home.
This time, for his crown.
You both could practically feel the jealousy radiating from the young prince; clenching fists as his brother ran toward them.
Something was fishy.
Even the idiotic Thor could see that!
The speech began.
A speech you and your sister had hear many a time before.
For Thor.
For his father.
For his father...and so on.
Since the beginning of time itself, the speech never once strayed.
It was never changed.
Never audited.
Never-
The crowd filled with voices as, for the first time in all of history, the king had stopped the speech.
He ran out of the hall, his sons following him immediately after.
You weren't paying attention as to why this happened, but your sisters expression said it all.
"Sol, what-"
"Frost giants!
There's FROST GIANTS in the palace!
In our realm!!" She exclaims, yanking your robes.
Her voice quivered as she spoke, a look of terror so familiar to you that it sent a chill down your spine.
You quickly tell her to stay there as you intend to make sure the prince is safe!
You don't get far before the queen stops you.
"Don't.
They can handle this.
Odin can handle this.
I need you to help me reassure our people.
It all will be fine."
You desperately wanted, no, you needed to make sure he was alright.
Yet with her highness's order, you could not seek him out.
You know what you have to do, you thought.
Without another thought, you nodded in understanding to her grace.
You and your sister quickly tag team opposite sides of the room, making a net of sorts.
You notice some of Thor's companions chasing after the royals.
Damnit all!
When the time was right, you would leave this hall and tend to prince.
You had to.
You couldn't bare the thought of letting him get hurt.
Not again.
Unfortunately, this time was only brought about when the king returned.
At that point, you knew exactly where the prince was.
Knowing him as well as you do by this point, you can only assume Thor wanted to go after the Giants.
Loki most likely tried to talk him out of it but ended up getting dragged along.
If he was truly where you feared, you had to get there immediately!
No matter what it takes.
"Mani, don't do anything brash.
We still have our duties-"
"My duty is to my king.
To my family.
To my people.
I need to make sure your safe and they are safe!"
"I know, I know!
I get that you like hi-"
"Mani!" Exclaimed the king..to your less than joyous surprise.
What could he possibly need now, you thought.
Your frustration was only growing.
You approach the throne and kneel before your king.
He stares at you...as if he's looking into your very soul.
"Follow them.
If something goes wrong, contact me immediately."
Your eyes widen in both disbelief and relief!
You thank him, bowing once more before turning around and instantly summoning your chariot.
The crowd around you watched as blue glistening lights take form of two horses, followed by a box with two wheels.
You yell, cracking your whip to go at unimaginable speed.
You could hear the stallions snorting heavily and chasing down the open sky.
Their hooves clack on the very molecules of time.
You don't even realize what you just did in the court room.
In front of the whole realm!
You just had to find them...find him.
To Joutenheim.
