Reyna sat in the corner of the apartment, finishing her history essay. She worked part-time as a Burger King cashier. Reyna shared a flat with Dakota, Gwen, and Octavian from her school. They all did odd jobs to pay the rent. Gwen was a babysitter. Octavian worked as an editor for a local newspaper. Dakota mowed lawns.

They had sworn that nobody at school would know about it. Just that all of them shared an apartment. Luckily, nobody had come to the Burger King outlet as of now.

Octavian was inside a room, typing, and editing on his laptop.

Dakota was on mowing duty.

Dakota came into the flat, mud over his pants, holding a roll of cash. He put it in their 'Rent jar'.

"Gwen will be coming late today. She called me." Dakota spoke as he tramped his way to the bathroom.

Reyna put a full stop to her essay, and grabbing her coat, she ran out of the door, late for work.

Her feet slammed on the paved footpath. It was about 4 pm and the usual bustle was there. Cars honking, people chattering, trucks rumbling down the roads. Reyna pulled her woolen coat over her uniform, her beanie covering her ears.

Reyna entered the back door of Burger King. She hung her coat and cap on a handle, the kitchen warming her up. The smell of patties and fries wafted up her nose.

She signed in for duty and sat on the stool. She smiled at the customer in line. It was Thalia Grace. Jason's elder sister.
