My heart stopped when El collapsed on the tiled floor of the food court, and then proceeded to shatter into a million pieces when she screamed.

But this wasn't any ordinary scream; it was blood-curdling and bone-chilling. It was a scream that made the world stop moving and everyone else to stop breathing. It was an earth-shattering shriek of pain, fear, anguish, and confusion.

I wanted to cry, scream, and vomit, as it truly shattered my soul to hear El's screams, but I stayed strong for her and everyone else's sake. I tried to take deep breaths, I tried to calm down, but nothing seemed to work.

"What is that?" Erica asked as El continued to whimper in pain, the screaming had stopped as I ran my fingers through her brown curls.

"There's something in there!" Mike shouted.

"No!" Eleven wailed in pain as I frantically tried to console her the best way I could.

"Jesus Christ!" Dustin said as he got a look at her wounded leg.

"Keep her talking. Keep her awake, okay?" Jonathan said before running off.

"No!" El wailed again, shattering the remains of my soul.

"Jesus Christ!" Dustin repeated.

I froze as El's eyes began to flutter shut.

"Hey, hey, hey. Stay awake, stay awake." Mike spoke in a soft tone, "Let's get her on this side, on this side." Dustin, Steve, and Nancy then began to help him move her as Mike gestured for me to sit, seeming to want to place her head in my lap.

"Easy, easy, easy, easy..." Steve worried.

"It's... uh.... you know, it's actually not that bad. There was a... the goalie on my soccer team, Beth Wildfire, this other girl slid into her leg and the whole bone came out of her knee, six inches or something, it was insane." Robin rambled.

Maybe it was a stress thing for her?

"Robin." Steve looked at her as El continued to whimper.

"Yeah?"

"You're not helping."

"I'm sorry." She answered as Jonathan came running back.

"Okay, all right. El?" Jonathan asked as he sat down beside us, carrying a wooden spoon, a kitchen knife, and rubber gloves. "This is gonna hurt like hell, okay?" He said as he put the gloves on.

"Okay..." El sobbed. I continued to run my fingers through her hair as I felt tears well in my eyes, hoping that the action would keep both of us calm.

"I need you to stay real still. Here, you're gonna want to bite down on this, okay?"

"Jesus Christ," Dustin remarked. "Holy shit, holy shit," Dustin murmured across from me as Jonathan picked up the knife and looked around at the group.

"Do it," I told him, forcing a sob back down through my throat. It killed me to do this, but it had to be done to save Eleven.

"Okay..." He whispered, even he looked scared. Eleven screamed from behind the wooden spoon as Jonathan reopened her wound.

"Oh, shit!" Dustin remarked, as the rest of us looked away from the scene or shut our eyes.

I could hear El start to cry from behind the wooden spoon as Jonathan's knife fell to the floor with a clatter.

"Jonathan!" Nancy screamed.

"Stop talking! Goddamn it!"

"No! Stop it!" El cried as she spat out the spoon, "STOP! STOP!" Jonathan stepped back as El sat up and my hands left her hair. She was red in the face from screaming and crying as she spoke, "I can do it. I can do it." Mike, Dustin, and I helped her get a better angle.
