Mike was late. Again. It didn't surprise me at all, but it did irritate me. All I wanted to do was see a free movie, but no- we had to wait for stupid Mike Wheeler to get here first.
"You're late," Lucas told him as he met us on his bike in front of Starcourt Mall.
"Sorry!"
"Again."
"We're going to miss the opening!" Will stressed.
"Yeah, if you guys keep whining about it. Let's go!" Asshole.
"If you guys keep whining about it. Nyeh-nyeh-nyeh.'"' Lucas mocked as we entered the mall.
"Just please stop talking, dude."
"Let me guess; you were busy." Lucas made a puckering sound with his mouth to mock the clearly unhealthy amount of time Mike spent with El. Is he, like, obsessed with her or something? It's weird.
"Oh, yeah, real mature, Lucas."
"'Oh, El, I wish we could make out forever, and never hang out with any of our friends.'"
"Lucas, stop." I scolded him, finally bored of the teasing.
"Will thinks it's funny."
"Because it is!" Will laughed.
"Yeah, it's so funny that I want to spend romantic time with my girlfriend."
"I'm spending romantic time with my girlfriend." Lucas threw his arm around my shoulders in a gentle hug as we continued towards the escalators.
"Hey!" Someone shouted as we rushed past.
"Excuse us! Sorry! Sorry! Sorry, sorry, sorry!" Mike half-heartedly apologized to the shoppers we passed.
"Excuse me!" I warned them.
"Sorry!" Will said as he passed them.
"Hey! Watch it!" Another customer cut in.
"Yeah, watch it, nerd!" Erica, Lucas' younger sister, shouted at us.
"Isn't it past your bedtime?"
"Isn't time you died?" I wasn't fond of kids, but Erica was amazing.
"Psycho!"
"Butthead!"
"Mallrat!"
"Fart face!"
Lucas stuck his tongue out at Erica, as I grabbed his arm and pulled him into the Scoops Ahoy Ice Cream Parlor. "Oh, now that was mature," I told him as I suppressed a smile at the arguing. It was entertaining, but it made me wonder if I could ever have that sibling relationship with Billy- my stepbrother. Not that I would want to, of course, since he's such an asshole.
Mike rang the bell at the counter when we entered the restaurant, desire there already being an attendant at the counter.
"Hey, dingus, your children are here!" The attendant, Robin, called out.
The dingus, Steve, opened the windows leading to the back room of the establishment. "Again? Seriously?"
In response, Mike just rang the bell again before Steve directed us into the back room and into the employee hallways.
"Come on, come on." He rushed us. "I swear, if anyone hears about this-"
"We're dead!" The four of us simultaneously finished the sentence we'd heard from Steve many times as he sighed dramatically. God, he could be such a mom sometimes.
