The days that followed were peaceful and rainy. It was now Boxing Day and Esmé had decided it was time for her to leave the Manor and head back to her penthouse in London. She arrived with Gigi and sat down. Sure, she was rich and didn't need to do anything, but after a while that got quite boring.

She could perhaps, apply for a job at the Ministry but, she didn't want to see Lucius' face, so that wasn't an option. Then it finally came to her. 'Hogwarts. I could work there.' She thought. She had Gigi grab one of many fur coats and put it on before Apparating to Hogsmeade and walking up to the school. She saw McGonagall and walked up to her. "Is Dumbledore here?" Minerva nodded and Esmé asked her for the password to his office, which was currently 'sugar quill'.

She entered Dumbledore's office and took a seat in front of him. "Ah, Esmé. It's been a bit since I've seen you here. How's your brother?" He asked.

"I don't know and really don't care about what my brother is doing or does. Now, let's get straight to the point, shall we? I would like to see if I could get a job here."

Dumbledore smiled. "Well, we do have an open position for Defense Against the Dark Arts."

"Good, I'll take that then."

"Well then, I shall see you this September Ms. Malfoy."

She left, satisfied with herself when she was stopped in the hallway. Esmé looked and saw Severus, fuming. "You got the Defense Against the Dark Arts job? Do you know how long I've been wanting that position for? And you out of all people got it?" He asked, poison lacing every word.

"What's that supposed to mean, Severus? Do you think I'm not smart enough for the job?" She asked innocently.

"Well, not exactly yes but-"

She huffed and left, walking back outside to Hogsmeade, Apparating back to her penthouse. That night, she slept with great ease knowing that Severus was livid, probably cursing to himself, and maybe even throwing things.
