September first had come a lot quicker than Esmé had imagined, but she still showed up to the school. The older students were already sitting down, and the sorting ceremony would begin very soon. She was wondering whether she'd still be teaching when her nephew, who was born that June, named Draco would be arriving at Hogwarts.

All the children got sorted and Dumbledore walked up to his podium for his speech. "Now, the Forbidden Forest is strictly forbidden, to all students-" He went on about more things and he finally came to the teachers.

"This year, you will have two new professors. Professor Severus Snape who will be teaching Potions, and Professor Esmé Malfoy who took over the Defense Against the Dark Arts post." There were, as to be expected, so murmurs about the name 'Malfoy' but Dumbledore quickly started talking over them and finally finished up his speech soon afterward.

The next morning, Esmé woke up early to start getting ready. Putting on dark red lipstick, fixing her medium, wavy platinum hair, and changing into a simple, short, black dress and matching heels.

Walking into to class, she walked to the front of the room and looked at all of them. "Now, even though I am incredibly wealthy, pureblood, and I am a teacher, please call me Esmé or Ms. Malfoy because that will do. I honestly don't know what to start out with for you, so for now just feel free to talk to your classmates."

Class ended after a while, and she decided to have a nice martini in between classes as she sat at her desk. Severus stormed into her classroom and slammed the door behind him. "You didn't even teach them! You can't let students do whatever they want, when they want, or how ever they want." He snapped.

"It's my class, not yours. Besides, we all know I'm going to be the favorite teacher. Just wait and see."

Another class started and she actually did teach them, but she wasn't going to give them any homework unlike Severus who had already told his students to turn in a complete roll of parchment. McGonagall was usually the favorite teacher but this year, things were different. Esmé was. Minerva felt a bit hurt, angry, and sad all at the same time. Being a bit angry because in her eyes, a woman who hardly did her job was favored over the rest of the hardworking staff but, she really couldn't blame the students or Esmé herself. If she were still at Hogwarts, she really wouldn't want homework either.

A staff meeting, held by Severus himself and all the staff except Esmé of course, since he didn't want her there anyway and Albus, were present. "Now, is it really fair that Malfoy gets to slither her way up because she's pretty and wealthy? Not to mention, she doesn't even give her students work and hardly does her job." He said, there were some murmurs of agreement while others stayed silent.

"You think she's pretty Severus?" Minerva asked and Severus felt a blush come up to his face.

He quickly hid it and scoffed. "No, of course not."

"Mhm, sure. For Merlin's sake, all you do is talk about the woman like you're obsessed with her."

"I would never, fall for Malfoy. I have Lily."

"Lily's married and has a son now, Snape. You missed your chance." Flitwick said and all of the staff except Severus agreed.

He ended the meeting shortly afterward and headed back to his office. He could tell by the sound of her heels walking against the concrete floor, Esmé had walked in there. "I'm sorry for taking your position, I'll resign tonight and go back to lounging in my home all day."

He sighed. "No, don't. I-It's fine."

"So you want me to stay? Beggin now are we?" She asked with a smirk playing on her lips.

"No. I wouldn't be begging you for something."

"One day you will be." She whispered before leaving the room, sending a slight chill down his spine.

'What is she doing to me? It's like I forgot about Lily for a second, and all I thought about was her.' He thought.
