It had been a few days since Jonathan's confession. Argyle and he were officially dating but he hadn't told anyone, well, he hadn't told his family yet. He didn't have any other friends to tell.He sat at the dining room table doodling along with El who had recently become more interested in drawing thanks to Will. Jonathan then focused on his mom doing the dishes.
"Mom, I'm gonna be gone tonight, is that okay?" Jonathan asked because he wasn't sure if he needed to do anything around the house.
"Of course, honey! Do you have a date tonight or something?" Joyce smiled looking over her shoulder. Jonathan froze for a second. He wasn't sure what he wanted to do yet, so he lied.
"A date? no, no, no, mom I'm just hanging out with Argyle! You know Argyle, we're just hanging out."
Jonathan focused back on his doodles and Joyce chuckled a hit before returning to her dishes.
It was a date. A date between him and Argyle. Jonathan was blushing just thinking about it, it didn't seem real to him yet. He looked at the clock, he had about an hour and a half before Argyle would be picking him up but so he decided he should probably get ready. He hung his paper up on the fridge and made a beeline to his room.
He spent a bit of time picking out an outfit, something casual yet more date-like. Once he finally decided on one, he took a quick shower and did his hair so it was a little neater than usual. By the time he was ready, he had about 15 minutes to spare. He sat on the couch and waited.
"You look nice, where are you and Argyle headed?" Joyce asked with a smile as she sat down next to Jonathan.
"Oh um, we're just going bowling, Argyle knows the guy who runs the place and can get us a discount." Jonathan smiled as he stares at his hands in his lap. Joyce raises an eyebrow.
"Bowling, huh? Sounds like a fun date, I hope you two have a great time together." She smiled wide and patted Jonathan's thigh. Before Jonathan could respond she got up and headed to bed.
Well, looks like his mom knows. It didn't bother Jonathan though, at least she's supportive. Eventually, he heard a knock at the door. He opened it to that sweet smile and Jonathan couldn't help but smile as well. Argyle kissed Jonathan on the cheek and let him step outside.
"Are you ready, man?" Jonathan nodded and they hopped in Argyle's van.

Once they arrived at the place Jonathan could feel himself getting increasingly more nervous. Surely other people wouldn't assume it was a date, they were just two friends bowling to everyone else.At least he hoped it was that way, he knew how certain people could be. Argyle got them in and led Jonathan to their lane. It was a small place and only a couple of others were there but Jonathan was still on edge.
He took a seat to try and calm down. Argyle noticed Jonathan's nervous mannerisms and placed a hand on his back to provide comfort. Jonathan relaxed a bit under Argyle's touch and smiled.
After a while, they were into the competition of it all. Something Jonathan simply could not grasp was the fact that Argyle was beating him.
"How are you so good?" Jonathan said a little louder than intended.
Argyle laughed, "I've had a lot of practice, I come here a lot."
Jonathan smiled and shook his head. Of course, Argyle of all people would bowl frequently, he loved it. It was a fitting hobby for the guy.
Jonathan was snapped out of his inner gushing by Argyle asking a question.
"Bro, do you want nachos?" Argyle's face was inches away from Jonathan's, he blushed a little before nodding. When Argyle was at the counter ordering Jonathan took the time to people watch, looking at the other patrons. He noticed there were only two other people now, it was getting late after all.
The two were a couple, high school age maybe, on a date. They were all lovey-dovey and Jonathan couldn't help but feel a bit envious. He wanted to be all lovey-dovey in public with Argyle because he did love him a lot but he just couldn't.
Argyle arrived with the nachos and noticed Jonathan looking downcast.
"What's wrong, man?" Argyle had that look of genuine concern on his face again.
Jonathan spoke in a whisper, "I guess I'm just sad I can't show you the affection I want to in public" Argyle smiled softly. He grabbed Jonathan's hand and ran his thumb over the back of it.
"I understand, it sucks hard but hey, the bright side is you get me as your boyfriend instead of me rejecting you or something...that came out a bit weird but whatever." They both laughed and ate the nachos before calling it a night.
Argyle drove Jonathan back home and kissed him goodbye.
Jonathan opened the door to his house only to be greeted by his mother, awake.
Joyce stood at the counter getting a glass of water.
"Hi, honey! I'm just getting a glass of water and then I'll be back to bed but I wanna know, did your little date with Argyle go well?" She lowered her voice when asking the question as if they were in a crowded room.
Jonathan smiled earnestly. "Yes it went well mom, thank you for asking. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have sleeping to do"
"Alright, night night, sweetie."
"night mom"
Jonathan dragged his feet and fell onto his bed. He kicked his shoes off and curled under the covers. He smiled thinking about Argyle before quickly drifting off to sleep.
