The day after the party, Jake began investigating Michael Hanson's former attorney in the Duskwood records. His name was Gerhard Erich. But when we eventually got through to the law office where he used to work, we discovered that he was no longer employed there. Jake decided to pursue this lead and wanted to investigate further into Gerhard's current whereabouts. Meanwhile, we agreed that I should go talk to Iris Hanson, Michael's ex-wife, for additional information.
"I cannot accompany you as I am stuck with investigating Gerhard. Please keep Nymos and Solis with you at all times. I'll be by your side through them."
He kissed me on my forehead. Then we went to do our own things.
Iris had already heard about me since I was involved in Hannah's, and subsequently Jennifer's, case. We had spoken once before where she thanked me for bringing justice to Jennifer's death. But we never told her about Hannah's involvement, only Amy's and Richie's. This was decided in accordance with Alan; because, on the day Hannah got rescued and confessed to her crime, the statute of limitations on Jennifer's death had just passed. There was nothing Alan could do about it so we decided to end the matter there; though it still had a heavy impact on Hannah till this day.
When I reached out to Iris again, asking to talk about Michael for a TV project I was in charge of, she agreed right away.
Iris was now living alone in a house near the Duskwood's market square. It was easy to see she welcomed any presence that was not a shadow of her own in the house.
In an extravagant setting of tea and biscuits, she held my hands in hers as she thanked me again. When her eyes started to water, I offered her a hug for comfort.
"I'm so sorry, Iris. I wish I could have done something more for you."
"Oh no, don't you worry, child. You have done more than enough, for me and my family. I can never thank you enough."
"Still, let me know if you need anything, okay? I'll stay in Duskwood for a while." - I squeezed her hand gently.
"I will, I will, my dear. I'm so sorry for making you worried like this." - She wiped her tears away with a handkerchief - "Now, you got to try those biscuits. I made a fresh batch for you today."
I took a biscuit and paired it with the tea. The comforting sweetness emanated through my whole body. Once finished, I set the cup down. Iris was doing the same.
"Now, tell me, dear, how can I help with your project?"
"Oh...Before we start, would you mind if I turned my recorder on? It's just for my reference later." - I took out my phone, not forgetting to discreetly check that Solis had done a sweep of the home. Everything was clear.
"Of course! I don't mind." - She gave me a motherly smile.
"Alright then, please give me a second to set it up." - I turned on the recorder on my phone and continued - "So, this project I'm in charge of is for a true crime documentary about Jennifer. As her case was recently resolved, a lot of people are interested in learning about the process. I am also interested in telling them all the truths behind it. The project is still in its infancy. For the time being, I'm interviewing everyone connected to the case, including her family and friends, for background information." - I paused, in case she had some questions for me.
"In addition, I've heard that Mr. Hanson's disappearance was tied to Jennifer's death. That's why I contacted you, as you are the sole connection between them, in order to discover more about both."
She nodded.
"For the interview, I'll be doing a series of questions. If a question makes you uncomfortable or you don't want to answer it, let me know and we'll move on. Do you have any questions for me before we get started?"
