I am not popular. It was kind of weird, since kids on the basketball team were usually popular, but I don't mind it; I liked having just a small circle of friends. The only drawback was that it was rare that I got someone I liked as a partner in class. It was horribly awkward, but I decided that I just had to deal with it.

It was in history class where I met Josh Dun. The teacher had announced a project about World War II that would be due in two weeks. Everyone paired up with their best friends, but I was left alone as usual.

"Does anyone not have a partner?" The teacher asked, and I raised my hand. So did another boy across the room. I thought he was familiar, I had seen him in the hallway before. The boy looked at me and smirked. Soon, we were paired up and were given instructions for our project.

"Whatsup? I guess we should introduce ourselves. "I'm Josh. I like punk music and skateboarding. I play the drums. Who are you?" His hair was thick and curly, and I imagined that he would have dyed it if it wasn't against school rules. He had gauges and a nose ring. Though, honestly, he kind of intimidated me.

"Uh, I'm Tyler. I don't really have a specific taste in music. I like to sing. I can play the ukulele, too." I looked down out of habit. Josh nodded and turned back to our project. "So, what are we gonna do our project on? Any Ideas? I was thinking something about Pearl Harbor. What do you want?" I thought about it for a minute.

"I don't really care. We can do Pearl Harbor, if you want." I replied, trying not to look too nervous. Being around new people made me stutter and mess up and do weird things. I hated it.

A while later, Josh looked up at the clock.

"Shit, it's almost time to go. Wanna come over to my house? It's not too far. We can walk there. Just call your house and tell 'em." Josh smiled. The bell rang and everyone shuffled out of the classroom. I called home and my mom said that it was fine to stay at Josh's place, so I met up with Josh and we walked to his house. His parents weren't home, so Josh led me to his room.

We didn't get much work done that day, and I decided to stay at Josh's house for the night. That night, before bed, I caught Josh looking worriedly at me, then his bed.

"Dude, what's wrong? If you don't want me here, it's fine. We've only known each other for like, not even a day." I tried to console him.

"No, it's not that. It's just... I don't have people over often, and when I do, they're usually.... Girlfriends," I had no idea why he hesitated like that, "...And we usually share my bed. There's really nowhere else to sleep, unless you want the couch. But it's small."

"Dude, I'm fine with it, it's a big bed anyways." I said, crawling in. Josh went to the other side, not facing me. I reached over and grabbed his shoulder, pulling him over to face me. He laughed at me.

"Josh, I want to know you better. Tell me stuff about you."

Josh looked at the ceiling, thinking.

"Alright, but you have to tell me things about yourself too. Okay. I want to dye my hair. I like to skateboard, and I'm very nervous talking to new people, no offense but that means you too. Uh... My parents are almost never here. you're the first person I've had over in months, and I think we're gonna be great friends. Also, my last name is Dun. D-U-N. Oh yeah, I'm not straight either."

The last sentence threw me off guard, but I nodded. I guess he was very open about his sexuality. I was really gay, so it didn't matter much what his sexuality was. Unless, of course, I wanted to date him. Which I didn't.

"You like guys?" I asked, hoping I hadn't crossed a boundary.

"No, I like girls, too. I think I like guys more, though. Now, I wanna know you."

I took a deep breath. "Okay. I'm Tyler Joseph, I play piano and ukulele. I can sing and I rap sometimes. I'm on the basketball team, but I have like, three friends. Four now, including you. I like guys too, but only guys. I'm not very interesting." Josh smiled, muttered something, and closed his eyes. I fell asleep a few minutes later.

When I woke up, I instantly noticed Josh was right next to me. His head was against my chest, and his arm was around me. I didn't want to wake him up, it would be awkward. So, I hoped that he would eventually move and roll back to his side of the bed.

Nope.

I heard a little groan come from Josh, and his eyes fluttered open. He looked confused.

"Tyler, are we dating?" He asked, eyes half-open. By now he had moved back to his side of the bed.

"I-What? No, we're not. You just decided to wrap your arms around me while we slept. It's so romantic, I know." Josh was blushing, I noticed. "Why'd you ask? Do you like me?" I teased, and Josh turned even more red.

"I- Uh, no! It just happens, sometimes... I usually sleep with a pillow, so it's just.. a bad habit to grab onto things next to me...?" He was so nervous, I felt bad for him.

"It's fine. I'm used to it." Fuck. That sounded weird. "I mean, no, that's not-"

Josh laughed. What an asshole. "Dude, I know what you meant."

As I was getting ready to leave Josh's house, he tapped me on the shoulder. He looked nervous.

"Do you want my number? For school stuff, of course. I'm not gay."

"You told me you weren't straight just last night."

"That doesn't mean I'm gay, though."

"You know what I meant."

I added Josh as a contact, said goodbye, and started walking home.
