The door banged open. I was wiping out the last of the dirty glasses. I glanced up. There he stood. Panting for breath as he glared at me from under his tied back hair. His brown eyes all but unseen from the sunlight glinting off of his glasses. Smiling, I greeted him.
"Oh, hey, Yatake. How was class?" I asked. He snorted, staggering inside the slightly dimmer bar.
He stumbled up to my counter. I sat down a glass of beer. Snatching it up in shaking hands, he used both to hold it as he gulped the liquid inside. I chuckled again. It was Friday. On Friday's my dear friend taught a young boy how to play guitar. It wasn't going well. He had been at it for over a year now. Yatake had tried to quit multiple times. The family, very well off, just tossed more money at him.
"Singing." He gasped out.
"What?" I looked up from where I was wiping down the long counter around him.
"Singing." He repeated, eyes nearly bulging out of his head.
"What about it? You're a great singer." I offered. He shook his head.
"They want me to start teaching him to sing on Tuesdays, now." He complained. I chuckled. He looked like he may just have a heart attack. He reached over to grab my shirt.
"You don't..." He began.
"Uh, hey, um..." I gulped. There in the door way! It couldn't be! Not him! Not now! I wanted to scream as my face flamed crimson.
"This isn't what it looks like." Yatake muttered letting me go.
"Oh, uh, hey whatever." The blond man muttered. His tongue grazed over the duel lip piercings he had. "Look, I was just wondering if someone could unlock the back door? We need to set up." He said gesturing to the small stage we had tucked in the corner.
"Oh, are you in the Seasons?" I asked stupidly. How did I not know the guy I had been crushing on for a year, almost, was in a band! What kind of fan was I? I cried internally.
"Ha, um yeah." He winked at me. "This is our first gig." He said. We stared at each other.
"The door?" he asked again.
"Yo, Akihiko, are you getting someone?" Another voice yelled from somewhere out in the street.
"Yeah, hold on!" Akihiko yelled back. I plucked the keys from the peg behind the bar.
"Go back there, I'll let you in." I offered coming around the counter. I turned away when I saw the sunlight reflecting off of the closing door.
"Don't let anyone behind the bar." I warned Yatake. He gave me a thumbs up as he finished off his beer. I moved to the back door. It was down a short hallway tucked behind a curtain, beside the stage. We used the curtain to hide the ugliness of the back part of the bar. They owner was always changing his mind on how he wanted it to look. Therefore it always looked about half finished.
"Your Haruki, right?" a deep voice asked way to close to my ear. I screamed jumping away from it. I thought he had gone back out the front door! What was he doing following me down the back hall! I screamed to myself.
"Um, ye, yeah." I muttered fumbling with the keys. I dropped them about halfway down the hall. He brushed past me to scoop them up. They hadn't touched the cement floor.
"Uh, thanks!" I muttered. How fucking cool was that! My internal voice was on over drive.
"No problem." He took my hand.
"How, um how do you know my name?" I asked him.
"We have the same English class. Also, aren't you in my chemistry class?" he asked.
