The first house we look at after successfully arranging to meet with the realtor, is absolutely beautiful. The kitchen is well designed with white marble counters and soft grey laminated floors. The garden is spacious and the rooms are equally as magnificent as the kitchen, but it doesn't feel like home. It almost feels like it's too fancy for us, even though I know that Alexander can easily afford to buy most of the houses in this town with cash. I glance over at Alexander and see him listening intently to the real estate agent who is trying to convince him that this is the place for us. He nods at her, as she talks, absorbing the information she's providing.
"Can I have a moment to consult with my wife on her thoughts, please?" He asks, not bothering to hide the fact that we are married. My stomach flutters with a familiar feeling at the sight of him not hesitating to announce our relationship with one another. As much as I've forgiven Colton for the things that took place in our relationship, I also know that there was at least a tiny bit of damage done to my self-esteem by constantly comparing myself to Amber. Seeing Alexander being so open about us is refreshing to say the least.
"Of course. I'll give you two a few minutes." She says kindly, smiling as she disappears through the door of the kitchen with her phone in her hand. Alexander's warm hands cup my face, sweeping a kiss over my lips.
"You don't seem to like this place all that much." He comments rather than ask, peering into my eyes. When he looks at me like this, with his eyes trained solely on mine, unwavering as they examine my every action, I can't help but feel vulnerable. His penetrating gaze, stirs my soul, making me yearn to be seen by him, and only him, for as long as time will allow us.
"It's not that I don't like it. It's absolutely breath taking, and the garden is big enough. Just like what we spoke of yesterday. Really, it's not that I don't like it. It just doesn't feel..." I trail off without finishing my sentence.
"Like home. It doesn't feel like home." He finishes for me, understanding gleaming in his chocolate orbs. "Yeah I got the same feeling. Don't worry my love, we'll find the perfect place. Even if we have to start internet browsing for a place." He reassures comfortingly without a trace of irritation. When the estate agent comes back, he notifies her that we won't be taking the place and that we will be continuing our search.
Elizabeth, the estate agent, manages to show us 6 different places, all of which are absolutely breath taking in its own way. They are all modern and renovated, the smell of freshly painted walls lingering throughout the houses. As gorgeous as they are, they still lack the homey feeling that I'm searching for. Anyone else would have gotten annoyed at the fact that I can't seem to just be happy with the places we see, but not Alexander. He patiently tours each house with me, his hand clasped tightly in mine without ever letting go.
"There is one more place I can show you that I think you might be interested in. It is a bit farther out than all the other houses I have showed you today, but it might be exactly what you're looking for." By the way her eyes stare at us, almost impatiently, I can tell that today was tiresome for her. I feel bad that we had taken her on a wild goose trail around the town in search of 'the perfect home.' For us.
